I was wondering, given the increase in replies regarding the recent release of the iron man blu ray film, there have been some individuals complaining that the sound is too low for the true hd track. I agree with them all. Given this, here is my conundrum...
I find that watchining movies with the true hd track are extremely clear, yet, they can be very low. If I were to watch the dvd version of that same film while using a dvd player instead of my blu ray player, and if I were to use the same receiver I always use with my bluray player, the sound is exceptionally loader for the dvd version. of course not clearer, just louder. Its kind of disapointing because, I would expect something that cost so much and thats so technologically advanced to be not only clear but also louder simultaneously. For some films I have to pump the voulme up to maximum capacities. I do releaze that there are other audio tracks aside from this. In fact I perfer lossless pcm, its perfect. But since most studios are giving there blurays the true hd track, its almost as if pcm is obsolete. I wish there were a happy medium between clarity and loudness. Does anyone else agree with my thoughts? Do you have a solution? |

You mean to say you wish there was a happy medium between clarity and VOLUME. Loudness does not necessarily imply volume.
I completely agree about TrueHD tracks being softer, but I thought Iron Man was one of the exceptions. I did not find myself having to turn it up any louder than I do PCM soundtracks. |

i actually have read a few times in other discussions that the sound appeared lower than expected. I honestly don't feel like looking for those threads, but i have seen them.
I hate messing with the volume on the ps3 itself because the more you increase the volume the more distorted the sound becomes. and why did they give the new casino royale bluray a true hd track? they should have kept the uncompressed pcm track. thats one of the reasons why it was the number 1 blu ray of 2007. the iron man true hd track in my opinion is just as low as the dolby digital track on the speed racer blu ray film. I expect the volume to be low on dolby digital blu ray tracks but not on true hd tracks. they need to put an end to this. I guess you can hear my frustration through these threads... |

Dolby uses Dialnorm Thats why there tracks sound lower than the rest.
Did you check and see if your ps3's DRC is on? and you can put the ps3's volume on +1 if you want without distortion, thats what i have mine on. i even tried +2 and i still didn't get distortion or clipping, its to loud though. you can read this also if you want http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volum...on-6-2000.html

![]() You said, "I hate messing with the volume on the ps3 itself because the more you increase the volume the more distorted the sound becomes." That just isn't true. It's all done in digital not analog. So don't worry, that isn't going to happen. So if the volume is too low, just turn it up to your preferred level. LPCM is often louder, but once you get them both at the same level, lossless LPCM and DD TrueHD should sound identical. ![]() |

Read Saprano's link above from Hometheaterhifi.com, and you'll begin to understand Dial Norm. The correct solution to the issue is to adjust the volume on your receiver. That's it. There is nothing inherently wrong with Dolby True HD at all.

I totally agree, i actually put this to the test when watching "The Kingdom" on DVD and Blu-ray..their is more activity in the rear channels on the DVD and is generally clearer than that on the blu-ray version, i dont understand this.
