Default You will not believe this!

I just had a service call because my t.v. has a really bad banding problem. It's a Sharp (hence the banding) So I put in the call to future shop to exercise my $500 warranty. The guy comes in and I showed him the black lines running vertically and horizontally through my screen. He acknowledge they were there and than from that point on it was like a bad dream! Here goes.

He proceeded to hookup a little test pattern box through a freaking composite video cord. (one little yellow cable) when I have the HD Essential Blu ray sitting right there. Anyways he put up color bars which were blurry coming through composite than proceed with about 10 differnt colors. On every color I could see the banding. At this point I'm thinking ok I'm gonna get a new panel out of this or something. This is where it gets unbeleivable.

He said that all LCD'S have this problem, no matter what the brand. And that it's a lighting problem. That the light can't spread evenly to illuminate the pixels. He said there is really nothing he can do to fix it. (Which there isn't cause you can't fix banding) Than he started feeding me lines of bullshit one after another.

He said that all LCD'S in the stores lined up side by side will look the exact same. The only difference will be the asthetic of the t.v. He also said that the the factory settings should be brightened up to make the color pop more, lol! And that because it was "Regular" Definition (he called it regular instead of standard) I would notice the lines more. Meanwhile I was showing him Ratatouille on Blu-ray.

This is the worst part, I asked him if his store did Calibrations, and get this, he told me that they didn't and he wouldn't recoomend it for two reasons.

1) It's hard on LCD screens especially because it tends to make the picture alot brighter and more colorful! lmfao and

2) most people are upset with the results.

Than he proceeded to tell me that he couldn't beleive how the t.v's now a days were a ble to have a wire hooked up to every pixel! I didn't even know what to think of that.

Anyways there was so much more that I couldn't beleive he was telling me. But to finish this up he said he was off to go replace some Samsung panels because there was defect in the factory. Is this not exactly what happened to me (Sharp's banding problems)!

I'm going to call futureshop customer serice back and demand that they honor the $500 warranty that I bought and that it's a product default and it has to be replaced. I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm off to work now though, thanks for letting me vent sorry this post was so long.

I really wish you guys could have heard this conversation I had with this guy, you would have been rolling around on the floor laughing that this guy does this kind of stuff for a profession. Thanks again

I think we will all believe it and definitely feel for you brother.

I can't stop shaking my head at the LEVEL of his ignorance.

"Most people don't like the calibration" ---um...try doing it PROP-ER-LY.

I have an LCD screen...no banding. No problems.

I would have tried to be polite, but I think I would have ended up feeding this fool to my family for dinner.

Bottom line, stupid people shouldn't breed.

Hope it all works out for you

Wow what a load of crap!

I hope you get the possibility to exchange your display for a different model. At least he saw the banding and therefore he admitted that there was a problem. Perhaps that can help you. If they didn't tell you when you bought it that it could have banding problems and if it's not written in the manual then you should be covered... Perhaps it won't be easy but you should get "justice" if not involve the consumer protection office in the province that you live.

sounds like you had an average Big-Box store experience...... I'd just keep calling, and have them keep sending fools out to your place until it gets so expensive, they'll just replace the t.v.

This site desperately needs an audio clip feature for lengthy posts . Record and post so I can click to listen. It would be great for multitasking . What the hell were you thinking anyway paying $500 for a warranty on a TV ?

I never buy warranties for several reasons but most often it is because of the hassle required to actually get the store to honor the warranty. Its like any insurance you don't really need it if you are careful and budget/plan properly financially. I'm sorry this has happened. If I were in your shoes, I would spend at least two days on the phone until I got a new TV, thats about what a $500 warranty is worth to me in time lost!

I agree. I am tired of watching headless, legless close-ups on the screen .

My cousin tells he he isn't even going to THINK of buying into Blu-ray until they "at least" start mastering the discs in 1080p

He just won't listen.

How about this. My uncle was an early adopter of HD-DVD. Last week I bring my PS3 to his house to watch a planet earth Blu-ray he bought thinking it was an HD-DVD (Sure, HD-DVDs came in blue cases too). He complained through the whole thing.

yesterday I helped him pick out his first Blu-ray player.

Banding problem, huh? If that doesn't get fixed, everything that is watched such as a blu-ray movie will look like a pirated copy

you guys are hillarious thanks for your support. Some other things I forgot to mention in the first post was that the guy had his fingers all over my screen. lol I was cringing. He also said this and I quote " Usually what I tell people about settings is that whatever looks right to you, is right. There are no right and wrong settings. If someone comes down and says your t.v. looks like crap, it doesn't matter because it's what you like." end quote.

He said that my t.v was outputting at 120hz, but I'm pretty sure that my t.v doesn't have that. He didn't check anything he just threw it out there. He was trying to say that the pixels turn 700 and some odd times every time the t.v refreshes but he stumbled on the number and than gave up. lol

I'm not ripping the guy because I honestly felt bad for him. He was older like 65 and he just didn't know the new technology. But he assumed that I knew nothing about t.v's.

I had to bite my tounge the whole time he was here because I don't really like confronting people when they are so clueless. I thought it would just be better to try and work it out with futureshop. This guy was sent by futureshop but he works at a small electronics store.

One more thing was that I asked him if they sold the 6500k backlights and he said no but if I left on the lights while watching t.v I would notice a big improvement in picture quality. Stating that in the dark I would concentrate more on the flaws.

Once again this guy wasn't purposely trying to screw me, he just didn't know any better. I'll let you know how this all turns out, as I will be calling customer service tomorrow. Thanks guys
