Default Best Subwoofer for my 2.1 setup

This isn't another of those threads looking for recommendations for equipment....

Okay I lied.... I have a stereo setup (for DVD/CD music, no TV) in my bedroom using B&W 601 Bookshelf speakers and the Onkyo TX-8555 stereo receiver... the bookshelves have quite a bit of bass output and are very punchy in the "mid-bass" kind of range, but obviously lack the oomph for the lower bass frequencies.

I'm looking for a small powered sub (10 inches) for a decent price (under $500) that will rumble off very low frequencies... none of this 45Hz crap... I need it to go at least as low as 25Hz... I've been looking at many options, but as I'm sure many people will come to the thread and shout out recommendations without reading anything but the title, I won't bother to list anything.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

edit: also the box can't be huge as i have limited floor space

What about 28hz? And for $297.00? http://www.amazon.com/Velodyne-DPS-1...4131564&sr=1-3
It's a Velodyne DPS. If you added 100.00 to your budget you could get a Martin Logan Dynamo - that's a 10 incher that will hit your 25hz
http://www.amazon.com/MartinLogan-DY...4131879&sr=1-1 but heres your winner the ED-A2 -250 it says it goes to 18hz (10 incher) and its $325.00 http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_...roducts_id=406

You know they'll throw out the eD a2-300, but that thing is a big beasly - you looked into HSU or SVS?

I'd stay away from Klipsch/Polk - how about Martin Logan and Velodyne models?

I looked at svs but the box sub thats within my budget is a bit too big... it would kill my floor space... same with the eD one

Default I agree

The guy who posted about the Velodyne and Martin Logan is right..I have Velodyne DPS3750R and I love it, ALso the Logan does well but more accurate but moves less air in my opinion.

I know a lot of people would say no to this but I have this sub: Polk Audio DSW Pro500 and think it is actually outstanding. Its Frequency response is: 23Hz - 160Hz.

And before people start jumping down my throat for recommending it, all I can say is I will listen to your opinion if you have actually bought one, got it home and listened to it. A lot of people will shy away from it just cause it says Polk, but in my opinion I think its great. You can also adjust it whether its downfiring or front firing...which can come in handy for certain applications. I dunno this is just my opinion. Also the 8 inch version is really good too.

No problem with Polk here, but it's a little pricey compaired to the other subs that I've mentioned (only one of them is over that price - but its a Martin Logan). I haven't heared this version of the Polk Audio Sub - I did sell them before they went consumer - back in the 1990's - they were pretty good subs, but our Velodynes, and especially our Paradigm PDR series - ate them for lunch.

oh yea no argument there that a Paradigm and some velodynes would be better. But I have listened to a lot of subs and even brought a few home to audition and there wasn't one that I like better than this one. it is a bit pricey but I think that has to do with the included remote control where you can adjust everything on the sub from your seat. which is pretty neat in my opinion.

but I just had to voice my opinion haha cause a lot of people say stay away from polk subs but I think this DSW series and polks newer high end subs are actually really good. And they definitely sound nothing like the psw and cheaper series from polk.

I was also contemplating Jamo... the subs don't move a ton of air, but they provide a decent accent to music... I have them at my work so I have a fair bit of experience with them

Your best choice
Take a good look into the eD sub there. It's not as big as the A2-300 either.

I know it'd push the budget, but for size/performance, I'll also (in addition to JJ ) throw out the ML Dynamo as a recommendation...... it's a great sub for the price, and very musical as-well.

Sure, it's $100 more, but - for your concerns, it's perfect.

My bad... read the site wrong... only one distributor... many dealers though... just called our local dealer (I never even knew we had one!) and they don't carry the subs in store but can order one... hmm
