Default Accidentally ran over my Blu-ray disc with my car and it survived.

http://www.nerdsociety.com/2008/09/2...from-the-dead/

Pretty much, I forgot that it was on top of my car. It fell off and I accidently ran over it crushing the case to pieces, yet the disc is still in one piece and perfect. Click on the link above for pics and full story.

You guys ever had something really bad happen to your Blu-ray, only to find out it's still working?

I love the protective coating on Blu-ray discs. I wish the cheap manufacturers would apply it to other media like cds. Even when I get a BD in the mail that has popped off the hub it is never scratched and looks as good as new. Blu-rays are the only media format I feel comfortable buying used.

Heh, pretty funny and surprising that it survived. Anyway, no, I haven't had anything bad happen to any of them but I've been meaning to play around with one of the promo discs just to see what they can tolerate.

They can survive that but definitely not the U.S. postal service as in the past six months I've gotten over 11 cracked Blu-rays from Netflix. Although I've been on a win streak since Netflix contacted my postmaster for my area and asked him to hand sort any netflix envelopes that come through.

That is absolutely amazing! I, like DevilDog151, have had some bad luck with the USPS and Netflix deliveries. Just goes to show what those plastic cases are capable of.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to test the durability of your Blu-ray disc's protective coating. Many of us have wondered about the strength of the coating, and your stress test goes a long way toward answering this question. We greatly appreciate your efforts.

Man, that is the story of the day!

I have had 2 discs snap in half while carefully taking them out of their package. I have never felt so nervous about handling any media aside from casette tapes like i do with BD

These coatings are handy, they're immune to pretty much anything.

what do you use to take them out, but considering how BDs, CDs and DVDs use the exact same plastic at the same thickness, there is no reason why they should brake in half more easily then DVDs or CDs.

maybe he doesn't realize that you have to press the center in, and then remove the disc!

I guess Blu-rays are pretty durable. They didn't lie about that.

With netflix, I've only had one broken disc and that was a DVD. I've been using netflix for about 3 months now. Maybe my postal carriers are more caring.

Thats very good to hear! You can always find another case. Speaking of dvds, most of my dvds don't work anymore after its been in storage for a quite some time. Hail to blu-ray!

Dang, sucks to be you. A case you can replace easily enough, but the whole front artwork missing? Not good. My sympathies.

I received a blu from netflix once that looked like a bullet hit it. I think they took it through the Bronx or something.

(PS: all apologies to anyone who lives in the Bronx, I'm sure it's a swell place to live.)

(PPS: More apologies for going all Monty Python on this reply.)

I drop my copy of Grand Theft Auto IV almost daily (When moving it from the PS3 to an empty case), and it bounces off of my hardwood entertainment center, smacks the other smaller metal stand and lands shiny side down on the carpet every time. I have never seen something as resilient as the Blu-ray's coating. I honestly don't try to be rough on purpose, but for some reason that stuff always happens.
