Why did sony remove the chrome outline from ps3? - Blu-ray Forum

The new models don't have that silver chrome like the old 20,60,and 80 gigs. why did they replace it?

the new models have a fake plastic chrome look painted on, im hearing even the new psp 3000 has this also( the silver ring on the back)

just wondering why they decided to change it, cost maby? it doesn't give that high end look anymore IMO.

It was probably something they decided they didn't need. Shave a buck or two off production, make themselves some money.

Sounds about right. Also, the 20gig models didn't have the chrome trim, to differentiate it from the premium 60gig model.

it have always been like that . it never was real chrome

Yeah a guy pulled the plastic chrome off his 60 when making a custom MGS4 ps3 on some post before the Metal Gear ones came out.

I love my 60Gb with chrome finish and the sexy piano black... in fact I bought the sony thumbstick that is piano black with chrome finish.

I love my all black 20gig. I always felt it looked better than the cheap chrome look.

The matte painting is ugly, but I guess it's cheaper to manufacture.
