My new Dell Laptop has this as the maximum resolution, however it has a blu-ray player and burner on it, should I consider returning because to my knowledge the monitor will never be true HD.

Well I can tell you from experience that I have a Toshiba Satellite that has an HD DVD drive. Yeah I know not blu. I needed one and when I bought it a few months ago, the format war was still going on, and this was the laptop I wanted and needed at the time. But, I can tell you that it is something like 1400 by 900 I believe. While that's not 1920 x 1080, it's certainly better than 480p. It's great resolution as I've watched many HD DVDs on there, and have noticed that they look great.

I know that I've seen something similar on a Sony Vaio that wasn't completely 1920 x 1080, but still had an awesome picture on it.

The best advice I can give you is ask yourself two things. Do you like the picture that the cpu is giving you? Also, do you watch movies a lot on your laptop? If you answered yes to both then keep it, but if you didn't, then you might want to reconsider and return it.

There are great laptops with HD technology out there. But, remember to get the best of the best, you'll have to spend a lot of money.

Does it have HDMI or DVI output?
The Blu-ray Discs will look great still, but if you have the connector(s) you can always connect it up to a HDTV/Home Theater.

It actually does have a HDMI Port, which is what frustrated me about this whole thing. Here's what I've heard though, that possibly I can only get stereo from the HDMI rather than 5.1 or DTS. Overall I find the pros outweighed the Cons for this, transformers and iron man looked great on the 15.4 inch screen, I'd have been upset if I bought a new TV and had this issue. I got a 40" and a 46" samsung 1080p tv set, each have blu-ray players, but i guess i felt bad about the entire principle of the thing, why would DELL put out a product that is sub-par, unless you cant fit the 1080p resolution on a screen this small...then i'd feel bad about this in the first place 1200 with tax included is just about what I have in it, it's at Best Buy's website at the moment...I liked the new Macs, but come on...no blu-ray meant i had to stick with the PC

For 1200, I'd take it back and get a Vaio with a blu ray rom drive but might have been a blu ray burner. I saw one today at Best Buy that was 1200 dollars with a blu ray drive/burner? (Can't remember if it was the burner too - Frys has one for sure that was 1600) and the resolution wasn't 1920 x 1080, but it was certainly better than the Dell you have. I think it was like 1600 x 900. That's a great cpu. It may have been just a one day sell or something. But its worth checking out.

Also, I can tell you my Toshiba one encodes DTS, DTS HD, Dolby True HD, and Dolby Digital Plus. So, you can get great sound on laptops as well.

well, human eyes can't really tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on the size of laptop. you'll have to have 40"+ size of screen to notice any difference.
I'd say don't worry about it, you'll still get HD experience.

i think it will really depend on the viewing distance. its a small screen so it probably wouldn't make a huge difference unless you were really close up to the screen.

well basically the screen is 720p right?? You can't get a lcd tv even at 22" that is 1080p so 720p is normal i would think.

I just go (about a week ago) a dell 1525 inspiron w/ a blu player, but no burner. I paid it was $799, but I added $20 for bluetooth from dell.com. It has a 320gig hdd, ect ect. I love it and have only started watching a few bd's but they look great

Correct!
Many people miss the whole viewing distance thing...

I'm probably gonna kick myself i dont go back and get a 1600x900 monitor...but its true, i dont think a monitor at 15.4 inches needs the same number of pixels as a 40 or a 46 inch tv in my home...sometimes you eat the "bar" and sometimes...he eats you
