They probably don't know anymore than we do... notice that there is no "pre-order" me or anthing of the like. There was a DVD site about 5 years ago (sorry but the name escapes me) who did the same thing, they let you sign up on notification lists to be emailed when the movies come out.
Call me paranoid, but I can't help but think it is a ploy to get your email address so they can sell your address to spammers, what with dangleing the godfather out there ![]() ![]() Seriously, maybe its a marketing thing, trying to gauge interest etc... but I don't thing they have any "superior knowledge" about upcoming releases. At least thats my $.02 |

I suppose you're right. But since my Bulk folder is always flooded with spam anyway I just signed up for all of them. If it really is some kind of testing the interest than we should all leave our paranoia behind and hang our email-address out there for the world (studios) to see

Amazon did the same with DVD way back in the day. Part of it was their initial affiliation with IMDB that gave them more access to data so they could do "please notify when announced". You had things like Star Wars showing up even though it took a couple of years. Presumably such data is shared with studios in order to show what their customers are interested in as a data point in their own decisions.

I personally think that it helps them do market research into how many copies they should order and also what titles will be popular.

Yeah, and Marwin created a thread about Amazon BD placeholders earlier this month, as well.
*le sigh* I wish they didn't tease us like that! ![]() |
