Default Sony or Sony or Samy?

I have been looking and shoppimg till my brain hurts and cannot make up my mind. I will be buying soon. Sony PS3 or Sony BDP-S300 or Samsung BD-P1200. I am more concered with picture quality than audio. As I have an older Pionner reciever 7.1 channel has optical in for the audio. I will run the Video via HDMI into my mitsubishi HD1000u projector.. I do play games somtimes so the PS3 comes in to play in this. 90% will be movies. Help me.

Take this as my blanket advice to anyone who does not want to spend for another BD player in the next two years: get a PS3.

Upgradable, media centric and games. Does a fast slideshow of your photos too synced with music as well.

I agree with fuad. Even more so if you do play the occasional game.

PS3. Constantly being tweaked/improved by regular fimware updates. Plus all the reasons already mentioned.

Yes PS3 all the way (this from someone who has played with standalones as well)... what everyone here said, plus it loads discs fast... way faster than anything else (I'm not a patient man).

Now that it's virtually unanimous that you should find yourself a PS3 ( if only for the faster BD load times)... someone else find a little screwdriver and crack open the S300 and take note of the how freaking close the insides are to the Samsun 1200. You scratch my back, I scratch yours and we all have cheap BD players at Walmart.

PS3! Said it once and I'll say it again, best thing I even threw 600 bucks at!!!

Does everything and it is the sickest BD Movie player... never one glich, freeze, anything. The rewind, fast forward, pause, slow mo... perfect.

PS3 all the way

Get the Panny BD-10a. fastest BD load times, the only player on the market that decodes Dolby True HD and DTS-HD, comes with 5 free BD movies, is just as upgradable as the PS3, I just updated the firmware on mine.

PS3 is the best choice. It is upgradeble, and Sony will do whatever they can to keep the PS3 up to date with firmware updates for the coming years.

And not to mention, PS3 games.

standalone players are behind what the ps3 can do.

It will take standalones to half the price with all the bells & whistles for them
to ever reach the numbers ps3 has.

If I didn't already have a ps3, I wouldn't have gotten the bdps300
Hell, I shoulda got another ps3

hope that helps!

If you are looking for movies on a projector, go with the Sony BDP-S300 or the S-1. The firmware is easily upgradeable, you get the analog outputs for future proofing your audio, and you get a remote. Also, the PS3 cannot be integrated into a programmable remote because I think it is bluetooth. But if you want games, that is the only thing the Sony BDPs cannot do.

It's likely the PS3 will support Picture-in-Picture (*spit!* waste of disk space) and BD-Live (online features) whereas I'm not sure current standalones are technically capable even with firmware updates.

If what's currently offered by standalones is all you want, you have plenty of options!

This is no longer a valid deterrent. Nyko makes a third-party IR PS3 remote, using a USB sensor that plugs into the PS3. Price is $20.

What does this have to do with programming a remote?

Sony designed their system with the intent of it being in your home for the next 8-10 years potentially. They built it so it can be upgraded constantly and it has every function that you would want in a blu-ray player already. If it comes out with one "killer app" or game you will have been repaid over buying a stand-alone player. Good luck.

I would also agree on this if you are against using a "game machine" for movie playback as I know some people still are. I'm considering the new Panny also, but as a second player. I have a PS3, and it's great all-around, so don't let the video game bias get to you

Since the third-party remote is IR, you can program your Harmony or other-brand of learning remote to learn those commands. Thus, you can control the PS3 with your programmable remote.
