Default So, my laptop died last night...

Blue screened on me then I tried to reboot and it went to the Safe Mode selection screen. I chose Safe Mode and it stayed there for about 30 minutes. Tried rebooting again in Safe Mode. Same thing. Sucks. It was just for the web and downloading but I really liked that laptop. It was cheap and worked great.

I was thinking of getting the EeePC from Asus. Either that or spending an extra $200 on a Vista Laptop. Anyone have any recommendations? I won't be playing games or anything heavy duty like that.

Try re-installing the operating system. If it will start in safe mode it could be a corruption in the operating system. Get all the data you want off it first (in the safe mode) then format the hard disk and start again.

I lost the restore CD a long time ago. It was a cheap Black Friday HP that I got from Walmart.

Check out the refurbed laptops on geeks.com. You'll get a good deal, and they're a reputable place. I've bought lots from them and have been very satisfied with each item.

That's not a bad little system. No powerhouse, but great for light work & perfect for email & web browsing.

You might be able to download it & burn it on to a DVD (using another pc) from the HP website. In the future, please put the restore disc somewhere safe.

Could be better with an SSD rather than the regular HD.

That would up the price significantly. I want a cheap laptop.

My laptop has been to hell, and it pretty much has stayed there. It still works, even with the screen part ripped off and had to do a "complete restore" about 17 times over the last 9 years. Too much porn

Anyway, my wife wants a good laptop and I think I am going to go Dell. My HP has had 4 or 5 warranty issues where I had to send back to HP in less than 3 years.
