Default Onkyo HT-S3305 Yay or nay?

So, is this thing any good?

http://www.eu.onkyo.com/products/HT-S3305.html

It says that it has a passive sub. Is that inferior sound wise to an active sub or does that only mean that you cannot replace it? If it's a good enough sub I wouldn't want to replace it anyway.

I hear that onkyo makes good quality products, but man, why does their stuff look like it's being made in the early 90's

What do you say guys? Should I jump in and get this? Bealive it or not, this is the only onkyo system available for purchase in my country.

It looks like my Onkyo ht-s3300 and I'd say its worth getting but if you can afford to get a higher model, go for it. These Onkyo subs give you thunderous bass. The speakers are good too but it could be better. What is your budget?

Well, I guess I could go up to 600$. Thing is, I'm from europe and this seems like a really good price for this system. It costs about 349 euros, that's 491 $ american.

These things are really pricey around here. How are you satisfied with your ht-s3300? And what's the difference between s3300 and s3305?

I am setting my eyes on the HT-S5305 , its approx the same as the 3305 except the passive bass.
I had them both tested at the dealer , from what i've heard , they have both the same thunderous bass.
But I feel more comfortable getting an active sub for feature upgrades.
and if u feel that u won't upgrade any component in the near future , consider getting a passive sub , coz it'll stick with the receiver.

Ok, so I'm really confused about what to get now.

I had my eyes set on the s3305, but I've seen that a store near me also has the s6305. What the hell is the difference between these two systems? The s6305 is pretty much double the price.

Ok, I've just done some reaserch while typing this. The s6305 seems to have a different reciver.

s3305-HT-R380 reciver
s6305-TX-SR508 reciver

So the s6305 supports 7.1 surround sound and has an active sub. Anything else?

So if I don't want 7.1 and am satisfied with just 5.1 and a pasive sub, should I just get the s3305? Will the sound quality be the same?

Or should I just start saving money for the s6305, as it has been discontinued, it will probablly be no longer available by the time I get the money

the s6305 has a better receiver , with 130W output , Audyssey EQ™ for Room Acoustic Correction , has an extra Universal Port for Single-Cable Connection of Optional Onkyo Dock for iPhone/iPod or DAB+ Radio Tuner.

Both are 5.1 , dts-HD and trueHD compatibles.

The differences seem to be in the extra options in the receiver , the accessories and the passive sub.

I recommend getting the s3305 , coz u can get 2 of it for the same price of the s6305.
and if u change ur mind in the future , u can sell it and get another one and not regret paying a lot for it

Actually ended up ordering the s3405.
It has the Audyssey EQ, different reciver: HT-R390 5.1 and apparently has different speakers aswell.

Hope I made the right choice. Can't wait to try it out. I've never owned a 5.1 speaker system. I've been watching my movies with the logitech z 2300 2.1 system ;P
