A couple of years ago, I purchased a Sony BDP-S5100 modified for all regions, DVD and Blu-ray. It has served me well, but I wanted to update and donate the S5100 to my local Senior Center. I Decided on a modified Sony BDP-S6500 as the replacement, which I purchased from Bombay Electronics. My initial plays has me thinking that I have made more than one mistake and will be returning it.
The first disc played was a Region A without a problem, although it force routes me via a App screen that requires me to click on a disc image. I tried a second Region A disc and received a screen message about an incompatible disc region. After going through the region setup again for "A" - twice - it accepted the disc and played properly. I think I have a machine with a software fix instead of a hardware modification for all Regions. The S6500 has a detachable power cord/adapter instead of the hard-wired AC cord of the S5100, which I prefer. Additionally, the S6500 weighs even less than the S5100, which seems even less durable. I should state that I do not need nor desire 4k, 3D or wireless. I do desire a durable, high-quality player for all regions, DVD and Blu-ray that is, preferably, under $600us. Comments and recommendations are most welcome. |
