Default 'Zack and Miri' partially Banned in Utah in some dude's theater

link

Quote:
If you're looking forward to seeing Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks in director Kevin Smith's new R-rated comedy "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" this weekend and you live in Salt Lake City, you might be out of luck. Utah Jazz and Megaplex Theaters owner Larry Miller has refused to book the film. The chain's spokesman Cal Gunderson expressed concerns about the film with The New York Post, citing the film's "graphic nudity and graphic sex" and that it was "too close to an NC-17."

That's one way to make sure everyone in Utah sees this movie.

the funny thing is, Saw V is playing there, so their standards are just No sex, more violence?

I'm glad I don't live there. The BR/DVD will sell big time, people love controversy.

As a footnote to this story, this past weekend an audience full of children and pre-teens expecting to see the G-rated "High School Musical 3" at one of Miller's theaters in South Jordan, UT were surprised when the beginning of the R-rated "Sex Drive," which features nudity and swearing, was shown accidentally. But at least they didn't see Seth Rogen in his underwear.

Reminds me of the protests for Dogma. Supposedly they even protested Dogma in his home town, so he went out to join the protesters and was interviewed and put on television with a pseudonym because the reporter didn't even recognized him.

Agrees. Tough to hate it unless you have experienced it.

It's up to the individual to decide, having someone blanket ban the movie screams too much oversight in my mind. If you are offended by it, don't go. Simple.

The article states it's in the same vein as 40 yr old virgin, knocked up etc...

Larry H. Miller is the same bastard who refused to show "Brokeback Mountain" in his theaters. But for some reason, Hostel was perfectly fine. What a douche! It's not the entire state of Utah. People here can still see the movie in other theaters, just not at a Larry H. Miller megaplex.

Totally lame.

It's the same guy who hated V For Vendetta because it "pushed a homosexual agenda". No surprise here.

Quote:
How much of Utah is Mormon?

About 70% of Utah is Mormon.

How many Polygamists are there in Utah?

About 60,000
(5% of Utah Mormons)
