![]() ![]() Deadline is reporting that Neill Blomkamp (“Chappie”) and Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) are teaming up to produce a film based on the concept video put together by director Ruairi Robinson (“Last Days on Mars”). The video was released just last week and has quickly gained a lot of traction as it’s racked up nearly 2 million views on Vimeo and YouTube. So it’s not a huge surprise that such big names as Blomkamp and Kinberg have attached themselves to the project so quickly. Synopsis. In “Leviathan” mankind has colonized many world in the early part of the 22nd century. Faster than light travel was made possible by harvesting exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those that take part in the hunt are mostly involuntary labor. http://deadline.com/2015/03/simon-ki...ox-1201396962/ |

I heard about this, pretty cool that it's going to be turned into a movie. How good it'll be remains to be seen, of course. I do like the concept of a sort of futuristic sci-fi take on whaling, pretty intriguing.
Coolest thing about this is that between this, the already released Pacific Rim and Godzilla plus their upcoming sequels, a new Japanese Godzilla film next year plus Skull Island, the giant monster genre is coming back in a big way. ![]() |

yeah, I'm curious how much involvement he will have. His roots are in VFX, hopefully he'll be wandering around the office nitpicking the artists and sticking his nose into it. I don't think he's the kind to just write a check and sit back, he's too young and too vision driven to do that.

Since I was a kid seeing all those space films and the aliens portrayed, I always wondered why they're all Earthly sizes. I mean the universe is big, I imagined monsters so large they eat stars for dinner. Hopefully somebody will make that film one day.

Ruairi Robinson is an fantastic director. Been following his career for a number of years now. Check out his other film Last Days on Mars and his short films. This guy is as talented as hell. This proof of concept is excellent but what I really want is his short film Blinky turned into a feature, and if this helps facilitate that then great! Hopefully this is his big break as a director!

I thought the teaser was well done (apart from some of the CGI crew), but were there 2 whales? at the end when the ship explodes it's almost as big as the whale's mouth, but earlier the whale is a lot bigger ...
For the biggest animals ever seen, they're not as big as I thought they'd be, unless these are pups ... Fantastic stuff, Last Days On Mars wasn't great, but I'd look forward to this! The director shows a lot of promise, hopefully he'll be able to bring some original sci-fi material to the screen. |
