That means you'll F up your speakers! If they are only 55w at 4 ohm and the reciever is 110 @ 8ohm, you'll be sending triple the amount of power that the speaker can handle.

They would attempt to draw more power from your receiver than what your receiver could supply causing frequent overheating and possibly permanently damaging your receiver.

A very big load on your amp will clip your speakers, burn up your amp, and could cause the speakers to blow.

Actually, that would be double the power but that's not even right. The amp would be the one with the power issues, not the speakers.

well which speakers to get with the hd reciever is really confusing me and i dont have much to spend on the speakers im just trying to get hd sound as cheap as possible,if i could find some cheap speakers to go with the reciever that would be great although after spending £250 on a reciever you dont want to ruin it by buying rubbish speakers.

Your correct in not buying cheap speakers, but you're fundamentally flawed in your thinking of "HD Sound as cheap as possible"

With the gear listed in Driver King's signature, you can stay in the "cheap" area of a budget, and not get "rubbish sound"

Whenever buying an "All-in-one" setup, such as the onkyo one you're referring to...... you're sacrificing quality, and Money, for a bit of convenience....(as far as not shopping around to piece things together) and although some HTIB are better than others...... you can certainly do better with the money if you shop around.

Most receivers have difficulty driving 4 Ohm speakers. Usually, it is best to use separate amplifiers along with separate Pre/pro that are capable of driving low impedance speakers. When the nominal impedance is 4 Ohms, it means that for different frequencies, the load may actually drop below 4. This may result in overheating and possible failure of the receiver.

Why not go with a all Sony set up?You can pick up there speakers for pretty decent prices and they sound pretty decent.I would recomend listening to lots of different speakers to find what you like though.

I would go this route. Heck, go to a pawn shop and pick up a pair of 10 dollar surround speakers to hold you over if you have to.
