Default Insignia TV

My cousin just bought an Insignia 32" tv. I tried telling him after he bought it to take it back and get something a little better. I've read that that brand is not very good and that they don't last very long.

What other things can I tell him about his purchase? I'm not too sure on the model it is, but it's an LCD I believe?

Thanks!

Insignia is Best Buy's in-house brand. They rebadge the lowest priced electronics and sell it. Cheapest of the cheap. With nearly no exception (except some surround speakers supposedly) the stuff is to be avoided. I doubt he saved that much money over a still budget-minded brand name.

Ok - I thought it was a pretty cheap set when I saw it. He put on The Hulk DVD and the video quality was poor...even for dvd! I think he said he paid $400 for it. It was an open product, though.

Thanks!

LG 32LG30 - 32" Class 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV $650

I am assuming this was at BB, the LG above has better response time, contrast, costs about the same, should have better color reproduction. many low cost companies like that the image is fuzzy looking/smokey, I know with vizio's it is, you can check that. I have the same fight with my in-laws, I keep telling them for the same $ they could have a sammy.....

You can get a Samsung 32" LCD from Costco in Canada (where electronics in general are much more expensive than in the U.S.) for $629.

Most "private label" brands, such as Insignia, suck! Especially in the electronic componant market and should be avoided at all cost! For a few dollars more you can get a brand name product that'll give you peace of mind.

Yes, it was at BB. I wish he wouldv'e waited on his purchase. I've seen the vizio's (my gym has 6 of them) and I haven't been impressed with them. Even thought they have regular cable and no HD, it still looks too fuzzy and looks like if they had rabbit ears connected to them.

Thanks!

Default Insignia

I agree to some extent that lower priced tvs have issues, but i bought a 42 inch 1080 p insignia 2 weeks ago and i am more than happy with it, i also have a sammy 40 inch for main room and they look similar to me ( just my opinion ) I got it for 750.00 after taxes, sure panny, sammy, lg and others are better and more expensive, but hey we all have our opinions.

That's very true and entitlement to them is important. But let's see how good the Insignia works against your Sammy in a few years time.

Default i'm happy

i'm very happy with my Insignia 37" LCD. I bought it with my Best Buy discount just before i left, for 600$.

It's 1080p, though not as sharp as a Sony I wish i would have gone with for 300$ more. HD movies and even standard dvd's look amazing still though. When shopping, the Insignia was better picture quality than the Sharps, Visios and RCA's in the same price range.

Yeah...you get what you pay for, but some people don't need to spend the extra money...

PS, without HD service, a 32" HDTV and higher IS gonna look like CRAP. No matter the brand, even sony, pioneer or panasonic. Even dvd's hooked up through the yellow/red/white will look pretty crappy on any brand also.
