Noticed that one of my Star Trek TOS discs was skipping. Ejected the disc and looked and it was pretty filthy on the bottom. Wiped it clean from the center out to the rim with a microfiber cloth and seemed good. Then I noticed it started skipping again and ejected and it was filthy again. I'm guessing probably pretty dusty in my Slim?
Anyone use any commercial cleaners to clean out their BD drive? |

Where did you have it that it could get that dirty on the inside?
The only way I know to safely clean the optics for BD and DVD drives requires opening the unit - which invalidates the warranty - and useing compressed air and/or a micro fiber cloth. I would avoid any liquid cleaner other than maybe 90% plus rubbing alcohol, applied using a clean cotton rag. And as some cans of compressed air can drip, be careful of that too. I've never opened a PS3, so I'm not qualified to guide you through. My only real advice is to never use a disc based cleaner (disc with a brush attached to it), to clean the lense. These optical pickups are very sensitive, because they have to be able to read so many types of discs. You can probably goggle detailed instructions on how to open and clean your unit. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few hundred youtube videos showing the procedure as well. Or you can send it to Sony or take it to a professional in your area.
