Sony Blu-ray freeze??

I have the Sony Blu-ray player and last night while watching The Prestige it froze. The controller would not work, I actually had to go to the unit and turn it off. Anyone had any problems like this??

This happened one time on my Sony Blu-ray player. I thought it happened because I had the sound/sub cranked and the vibration confused the player. The next day I updated the firmware and the player has not froze since that one time. I am not sure if the update helped the lockup issue or not. But it has not happened again and it has been 4 to 6 weeks.

It occurred because of electrostatic shock.

I placed the disc on the tray. When I touched the front panel *PLAY* button, I got a little shock because I had just walked across the carpet. None of the front panel controls responded or the remote buttons either.

I found that the only button on the remote that it responded to was *Power Off*. When I hit that, the tray closed and it powered off.

Then when I pressed *Power On* it came on as normal and played fine.

Was the freeze fairly early in the film...like around 25-30 minutes? I had the exact same problem on The Prestige. I was able to get past it without the disc completely stopping..it did freeze for about 20 seconds. I thought it was my copy but maybe they're all mastered wrong.

P.S. This was on a PS3.

In my case the freeze happened 3/4 the way through the movie (which was Crank).

The freeze happened about an hour into the movie. I actually checked and my Sony player is version 1.06 so I called sony and they are sending me the update dvd hopefully that stops it from happening.

I watched The Prestige two nights ago on my PS3. It FROZE 4-5 times during the movie for at least 20-30 seconds each time. What gives? It's the only one that has done that.

I watch a lot of blu-ray movies and this has happened to me occasionally in the past. On another forum where this topic came up someone suggested going in on the main PS3 menu and turn the online/internet option to "disable" (you have two choices there, "disable" or "enable"). When you next need to go online with the PS3 for any reason, just go back there and quickly select "enable". Since I started doing that I've never again had what you are calling the freeze problem. The other forum called it a pause problem because if you did nothing it started on its own shortly (10 - 20 seconds).

I haven't had this problem with my PS3 for the past three months but since Tuesday, I've had The Prestige (Blu-ray), Hollywoodland and Alias (both DVD) have all frozen on me. I have yet to turn off the online function but I'd hate for this to be the only solution (especially if background downloading works while watching media disc)

Fiasco, over on a Playstation forum the rumor (speculation actually) is that one of the upcoming firmware updates for the PS3 will fix this freeze problem. So if you're like me, you'll chalk this up as a temporary solution.

yeah, it froze on my ps3 as well. Turned off the Network Connection and it never happend again. I hope they fix this issue with the next FW update.

I have The Prestige, my first blu-ray title. It did the exact same thing. I have two other title that did not freeze at all during playback.

I have The Prestige and have watched it 3-4 times already on my Samsung and I haven't had any freezing problems at all. Played perfect everytime.

I had X Men III (The Last Stand) freeze on me twice on the PS3.

I also had an over thirty second freeze and have had occasional 1-2 second freezes with my Sony stand alone unit. I called tech support and they said that they rarely ever get this issue and had me reset the unit by holding the power button for ten seconds while the unit is on. I will have to see if this helps but please call in when you have issues so we can get firmware updates.

I have the Sony BDP S1 with the most recent firmware upadate and The Prestige didn't freeze up at all. I even paused it a few times for an extended period and it still did not freeze up. I will get an occasional freeze when watching standard DVD's. Good luck.

The first time I watched this on my Sony BDP-S1, it worked fine. But now everytime I've played it since then it's frozen at differen't points. I think there may actually be something wrong with the disc (or the sony firmware upgrade) because the FBI warning, the rating and the pop-up menu thing at the beginning of the movie stay on the screen for like a millisecond each.
