First, +1 on The Others. A lot of people panned it but it was very good and very creepy.
I'n not sure if this is off-base or not but the first thing I thought of when I saw Shutter Island was The Ghost Writer. It's kind of similar in style and tone and has a similar thriller/mystery vibe. Which leads to a perfect opportunity to shill for some older Polanski films - Rosemary's Baby, Repulsion and The Tenant are all very good psychological/supernatural/who-knows-what thriller/character studies. |
