Hello all,
I currently have my PS3 hooked straight to my receiver (TX SR-805) through HDMI, i also have 7 speakers hooked up to this receiver. My question is, Theres a section where you choose audio options settings, i am really confused and stuck here and i dont know what to choose, any help would be greatly appreciated. These are my current checked settings under Sound Settings: 1-Linear PCM 2 Ch. 44.1kHz 2-Linear PCM 2 Ch. 48kHz I also have under BD/DVD Audio output format (HDMI) set to: bitstream , is this correct ? any help would be appreciated. |

I have an onkyo 606 and 7.1 sound too. When ever you go to sound settings, pick "automatic" and it should bring up a whole list of sound settings. Those are the ones that the receiver can handle. Make sure you check off all of them. Once you do, hit ok and look at the display on your receiver and it should say multichannel PCM. Then, hit "display" on your receiver remote and it should say what kind of audio signal you're receiver is outputting. In your case, it should say something like "PCM 7.1." If it does, you're all set!

thanks alot everyone, i really appreciate this info.
also one more question, i usually play regular DVD movies in this player, are there any audio problems at all, do i have to change LPCM to bitstream ? reason i ask is because i heard on another thread that you have to change this back and forth, or maybe i understood wrong ? any take on this ? |

i set it to automatic and it displays only 2ch the exact ones i have checked. so i set them manually to 5.1 and 7.1 , same 44.1khz and 48khz, and it worked.. it shows PCM on the receiver display, but whats weird is that it doesnt sound any louder or any better, am i doing something wrong ? also it displays 5.1ch on the ps3 receiver when i press select. i was playing transformers. any help is appreciated. |

OHHH man I am going to get it for saying this ... but I have found that with an Onkyo 805 and 605 both connected to a PS3, (one upstairs, one down) that with some titles including Iron Man and Transformers, I got "better" sound by switching the output from PCM to Bitstream ... I know I know, by doing that I am losing the HD audio for the "Lossy" audio. But to be honest, I have two 5.1 setups and I cant actually tell a differance between lossy and lossless. There was a post here a while ago stating that very fact. Most people cant tell the differance and to some, the differance is nominal. |

I think that Transformers only has 5.1 audio. Cant get 7.1 out of it. (I Think) Check the box.

Also, make sure that when you watch DVD's to have it set to "bitstream," since these are lossy codecs such DD and DTS. Let the receiver decode! You can do this more quickly by pressing triangle on the PS3 remote and then go "audio/video" and go to "audio output" and pick bitstream. This is where you can switch between bitstream and PCM when watching movies. Also, make sure to turn off the dynamic range control when watching Transformers and Iron Man because these movies are encoded with it. They'll sound much louder and better! I think Batman Begins has this issue too. I turned it off and sounded great!

Do a forum search on (Transformers weak sound) and (TRUHD Flat) and all your questions should be answered.
