star trek series/ stargate series

I know they plan release the trekkies film out on blu ray next year when the next new star trek film comes out but is there any dates or what on the films and in what order... and if so... and also the series when they intend to release them...in the UK...

and Now stargate and continumm has been released and ark of truth coming soon... but what about the series and atlantis.... any ideas when they are going to plan to release these ON BLU RAY in the Uk...

ENT S4 is the only set I cared to dole out cash for, besides any obligatory appearances made on the ST: Fan Collective sets.

Back OT, I haven't heard any confirmed release dates or titles mentioned regarding Star Trek, just the assumption that Paramount would have them out sometime in '09. Like the recent Bond BD releases tied in to Quantum of Solace's release date, Paramount has two opportunities, May when the new film arrives in theatres and the Fall period when I assume the BD for the new film hits stores. So I betcha a half fizzbin there'll be two waves of Star Trek titles to come next year.

I think I'll continue to get the TV shows on DVD (already have a complete set of Voyager and Original series), but I would love to get the movies on Blu-ray.

This came up in another thread somewhere but the only trek you'll see in blu ray will be the original series (as it was shot on film) and Enterprise as it was shot with HD cameras..voyager,TNG,DS9 were all shot on video hence they can never be upgraded to HD..shame though as i would have liked to have had TNG in it.

Stargat series can mostly all come out but not sure about the really early SG-1 'S

TNG/DS9/VOY were not shot on video

TNG was shot on 16mm for the first 2 seasons, and 35 thereafter, the rest were 35mm. TOS by contrast was shot and edited exclusively on film so it was a simple matter of rescanning it.

They were edited on video, and the effects were done on video. The original film would have to be dug up, rescanned, and the FX redone (the beauty shots used repeatedly were all done on film, until you get to the latter half of DS9 it's not as much work it sounds like).

Enterprise had dismal DVD sales and bombed in syndication, I don't think Paramount is in any hurry to put it out. ENT fans may be loud, but there doesn't seem to be that many of them willing to watch the shows on TV or buy the DVDs.

TNG may get an HD remastering in the future, but that's probably 50/50 as it will be extremely expensive. I've recommended that they choose 8 episodes including Best of Both Worlds, remaster them and throw out a Blu-ray to test the waters. Course I'd rather them just do the last 3 seasons of DS9 if I had to have piecemeal, but DS9 would be lucky to hit its 20th anniversary if TNG were greenlit I think

Voyager did sell poorly in the US. It does a lot better in Europe where it was the first Trek to get mainstream exposure in the vast majority of the continent. In fact originally Paramount wanted to put Voyager out first for precisely this reason.

That's why it took so long for the prices on Voyager and Enterprise to come down

Stargate I forgot to mention has 5 seasons that would need to be completely redone, and the FX were always done SD (check out Stargate Continuum, the shot of the Go'auld motherships to see a good example. The background plate is razor sharp HD, but all the motherships were designed back in 1997 and are extremely low detail)

They mixed it up. I assure you they were all shot on film. They were MASTERED on video. Something that's shot on non-HD video will look like Doctor Who(the original, the current one is shot with very high quality cameras and heavily processed) or Married with Children. No major US studio shot dramas on video until HD cameras came around that could approximate film.

Thanks for the insight. It'll depend on the cost (which is usually set at a premium price by Paramount) whether I decide to upgrade to BD or not.
