The only region free steelbook version I know of is the Japanese version.

As far as I know, all of the ones coming out (UK, Germany, France) are all region locked; confirmed already if I'm not bad wrong.

I was looking at that one for a while, as well. I think it was around $80-90, right? It is a very nice steelbook!

Just couldn't do it when I saw the UK version could be had for $25. I'm getting a region -free player next month, so these things should cease being an issue.

74.52 was what I spent at amazon.jp. Shipping is what is killer but the thing got here in like two to three days.

I just love the steelbook though and the simple look it has. I want a region free player I just got my money going in other directions right now, may need to start saving for one soon.

I got a region free player around a month ago, I just need to find this for a cheap price. How is the quality on this steelbook disc compared to the normal one? (Please post links and pictures)
A random question, but you guys seem to know a lot about steelbooks. What about Crank (Hyper Tension)?????? I know it's locked, but where can I get the Blu-Ray steelbook for a cheap price????? (Once again, please post links and pictures)

The cheapest you'll find it probably is this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Terminator-Judgment-Skynet-Steel-Blu-ray/dp/B0020HRSU6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1242505263&sr=8-1
I think it's roughly $25 US, maybe a bit more but that's rough. The cover is the same in all the countries in Europe when it comes out next month.

You can get the blu-ray.com review for it here:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=4925

I think 'Crank' was a French release, or was supposed to be.
http://www.amazon.fr/Hyper-tension-Blu-ray-Jason-Statham/dp/B001ND9C2A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1242505439&sr=8-1

As for pictures, you can see the cover there. Not sure about the PQ on the disc though -- someone who has it will need to chime in on that one.

First i'd like to say thank you SO much. Second, on the Blu-Ray review for the T2, it says Tin. Is there a difference between a steelbook and a tin?

There is. General consensus is that's it's a steelbook, however. Won't know for sure until release, though.

So it comes out in about 2 weeks.

As soon as somebody gets it, can somebody report back to this thread and post the difference between a steelbook and a tin?

Yeah, we know you are. But a nickel's worth of free advice: not finding things yourself will get you killed around here.

So here's your first lesson. Even without a search function, steelbook information isn't hard to find. Almost every release has its own thread, especially the new ones.

If you'll look in the steelbook discussion forum (where we are now) and scroll down about 3/4 of a page, you'll see the T2 (UK - Steel) thread right there.

Keep your eye in there and you'll find the information you need when it comes out.

Oh, and if you'll notice, a lot of the little threads have little flags next to them; of course, signifying the countries they are releasing in. Those are threads dedicated to the steelbook releases (based on country, of course). That should help you, too. If you're looking for a UK release, look for the flag.

Now that I really think about it I have a Halloween 4: Tin Box Special Edition. It's really thick and everything. Will it be like that do you think?

First off Freddy, welcome to the wonderful world of collecting SteelBooks.

I seriously doubt T2 will come out in a tin like that. In searching various websites since I've started collecting SteelBooks, I have come to the conclusion that a lot of these on-line retailers will use SteelBook, steelcase, metal case, tin case, and any other variation of the term interchangeably. I've seen releases clearly labeled as a SteelBook, only later to have the SteelBook designation removed and something else put in (or they leave it there), and it gets released as a Metalpak or something else entirely. It really is best to wait 'til the film is released so that it can be reported as to whether or not it is a bonafide SteelBook.

Having said that, there is a German dvd SteelBook of T2 that has been out for awhile now with the same artwork that is being used for the blu-ray release, and the dvd SteelBook is from the same company (Kinowelt). I am betting that T2 will be released as a SteelBook, but only time will tell.
