Angry Little help plz

I recently got my PS3 and was real buzzed about getting home and playing it in glorious HD but thats when the problems started.

I've hooked up my PS3 to my TV via the HDMI connection and when i try to activate 720p and 1080i which is supported by my TV, i get a problem with the picture where i begin to see like a shadow image to the right of the normal image in like pink/red lines.

When my PS3 loads up in 720p or 1080i on my TV, it says HDMI in the right corner and then directly underneath it says 720p/60 or 1080i/60. On any of these HD signals the problem occurs and i can't even tolerate the image quality with the pink/red lines.

My TV is the KDF-E50A12U and it is HD ready but i'm getting this problem and am in real frustration not being able to play in HD at all. I've been thinking that i would have to get a completely new TV to actually see a 720p/1080i/1080p image as my TV at the moment only seems to play in 576p at the moment and would also like to know if the KDS-55A2000 that i plan on getting soon would get this issue and what i could do to resolve the issue at all on my current TV

With the TV on, and also set to HDMI, power on the PS3 by holding down the power button for 5 seconds. You will hear a beep and it will reset the video settings and self-calibrate itself. See if that helps.

NARMAK that is not normal so I would try to do a proccess of elimination to see if it's your conections, your TV or PS3 that have some problem or is there a incompability between the two. Have you tried the PS3 in another HDMI TV?
I assume you have other HDMI sources being sent to your TV to confirm your TV is working ok with HDMI signals

This sounds like incompatible video problem. Something like you're feeding it 1080p video when the HDMI receiver can only pass through 1080i.

Are you connected directly or through a receiver/switcher?

I am running a straight through HDMI connection from my TV to the PS3 but i don't understand everytime it changes from the 576p to 720p or 1080i signals which are supported by the TV show up with like a ghosting image in red/pink lines.

I don't know this for certain but wonder if any of you guys might think it's the speed of the signal that is causing the problem. when the PS3 is switching to 720p or 1080i, it says 720p/60 or 1080i/60 in the top left of the TV under HDMI. i assume the 60 bit means it is at 60hz. I also had a slight problem on this TV when trying to play PS2 games at the higher speed option given on street fighter 2. I assume that this problem is stemming from the problem of the TV not being able to handle a signal at 60hz.

Could anybody here confirm this for me plz

If you have another HDMI cable or have access to another HDMI HDTV, you can try the PS3 on that. See if the problem is repeatable using HDMI.

A quick potential fix or just a diagnostic tool is a PS2 component cable - it would work with the PS3.

Use the PS2 component cable and see if you have the same problem using component.
