Default Help with new receiver

I have a Harman Kardon AVR35 so I don't have HDMI or analog inputs and I'm looking to upgrade to something that can take advantage of BR's great sound.

Since my BR player is a PS3, I'm assuming my only option is to get an HDMI receiver ( verses one with analog inputs). As I understand it, I don't need HDMI 1.3 as the PS can do the decoding and just pass the PCM over HDMI.

Cost is a big factor so I'm looking for the least expensive unit that will allow me to get everything from uncompressed PCM or DTSHD-MA. I don't have mutliple game consoles or other av gear to connect so I'm don't need connectivity options or great processing circuits. I expect to let the PS3 do all the work and just need a receiver that can pass through 1080P over HDMI and will do a good job of getting the sound to the speakers.

I would appreciate any suggestions or comments on my reasoning if I'm overlooking something.

Thanks in advance.

Most people do not have a A/V w/ HDMI. The Best thing is to run a Optic line from the player to a A/V then run the video stright to the tv, there is less that can go wrong & the tv will get the best image. But looking at your A/V you do need to up grade, No DTS !!!!

Yamaha = most bang for your buck. I have 2 Yamaha's A/V's, a Yamaha RX-V1500 & a Yamaha RX-V520.

Optic is what I'm doing right now but you can't get full PCM over optic so that's why I'm looking to upgrade. Dolby pro logic with the 2 channel optical sounds really good but I know it's just an approximation to the true PCM.

I have the Yamaha HTR-6090 (click the link in my sig for details) and it can be bought for several hundred less than the RX models (<$650) if price is important and you do not need all of the advanced features.

Sorry but I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

Edit: Do you mean a guy who sells thiel and runco said the Yamaha was bulletproof?

It seems that many people seem to recommend Optical connection. This is by far inferior to Digital Coaxial as Coaxial is an electrical connection and thus far less prone to interference / distortion.

If you have Coax, use it over Optical.

You have this backwards - Coax is subject to interference....since it is a metallic interconnect you get ground loops, EMI...etc. Not with optical.

^^ And considering that the optical TOSLINK connector was invented by Toshiba wants me to go coax anyway

My desire is to get away from optical/coax so I can get lossless audio which they can't do as I understand it.
