Default Monster HD Power Centers

Is it important to have an hd power center for my home theater system, or is it all hype from Monster?

Monster isn't the only company that sells power line conditioners, surge protectors, etc. And YES, they are a good idea.

Check out Belkin, Panamax, APC for a whole range of products that will suit your needs.

At the very least get a mid-priced surge protector (not the $20-$30 kind).

You need a power conditioner. How much you spend and what brand you buy are sometimes less important. Don't spend $5 and expect quality, but you don't necessarily need to spend $500 either.

i honestly belive a good power conditioner is only behing a good tv and avr as the most important part of your home theater. some wont agree with me, but others will. and for god's sake, make sure that you use the cable/sat and phone line/ethernet jacks on the conditioner if you have anything in your setup that uses them. its the best 2 seconds you'll ever spend to get a complete piece of mind

If you can afford a better one, get it. I used to claw into the sofa every time I heard an electrical crackle/snap from my TV when the water heater/fridge turned on My Acer monitor did not like that one bit. If it was in use and that happened, it would trip the GFCI breaker

A lot of it depends on the area you are in. If you have frequent power highs and lows because of the power distribution in the area, you need to get one that equalizes the power. If your power is pretty stable coming in, you can get away with a standard surge protector.

Once you spent thousands of dollars on your equipment (receiver, player, TV), you don't want to end up having wasted it because you don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars more on a good surge protector. If you have a surge protector for your computer, it's a good idea to have one for your other high priced electronics.

i bought a belkin power conditioner and never looked back:

paid $90 for a pf30 and it came with a lifetime warranty. during a storm lightning actually struck our house and the belkin did it's job, but in in the process it was shot and the switched outlets stopped working. after a 10 minute phone call to belkin, they had decided to not only replace my unit free of charge, but give me an upgrade. arrived 3 days later.

other people might have other opinions on different companies, but i'll always stick with belkin. if you go with something else, make sure it has a lifetime warranty (most do)

I think I've decided on a better power conditioner to replace my Belkin unit.
which has served me well. http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=163017

But I think that I want better protection for the investment I have made and this is what on my shopping list this Christmas:
