Set your Direct TV box to what you want to watch.....
Unscrew the RF cable AT your TV set and connect it to the ANT IN on your VCR.

Connect your RF out on the VCR to your TV set in the same place you just unscrewed.

Turn on your VCR and set it to CHANNEL 3 .....Now you just have to press the RECORD button on the VCR.

but how is the direct tv box connected. Im not sure if understand correctly. The way i have tried it now (which isnt working) is to connect the rf cable comming into the house for the satalite into the anttena in on the back of the vcr, and then an rf cable from the rf out into the back of the satalite receiver and the rca cable to the tv

The SAT receiver has to be the first thing plugged into the cable coming into the house. The tuner in your VCR doesn't support SAT signal. So you have to go RF from the SAT receiver if it has one, if not go Composite (RCA) from SAT receiver to VCR, then Composite from VCR to TV

put the rf cable coming into the house back where it was. now take the cable that goes from your cable box to your tv and connect that to the IN on your vcr instead. so now you have the out from the cable box connected to the IN on the VCR.
then connect the OUT of your vcr to your tv where you had the original rf cable connected.

also for future ref: get a DVR, they're like $5/month from your cable company and totally worth it. trust me

this guy can't even get this set up, you are being too complicated for him. forget "composite" and this and that, say " this cable into A and that cable into B and done!"

I was pointing out that he should make it as simple as possible for you.

I wasn't implying that you are slow or anything but your defensive ass post shows that apparently you are a retard and a hostile one at that.

sorry man i didnt see your previous post where you did offer a soloution, only your seccond post, so you did try to help, sorry man. Only seeing your seccond comment gave me the impression that you were simplyin being condescending. By the way this is for my dad, the first thing i told him was to get a dvr, but he needs to record something today. I havent used a vcr in about 10 yrs
