I have a 32'' widescreen tv and a ps3 so i can watch blu-rays. I have bought blu-rays that say "widescreen" on the back of the box but when they play they don't show the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen (which i like)
any fix for this or are widescreen movies suppose to look fullscreen on widescreen tv's? |

It has nothing to do with your PS3 or TV- it all depends on how the movie was shot- If you look on the back of the box, what's the aspect ratio? The two most common are 1.85:1 and 2.40:1. Now, since widescreen TVs are built at 1.78:1, the black bars should be almost not be there (they should be razor thin). Meanwhile, movies that are 2.40:1 are displayed on a 16:9, the image is still quite a bit wider, so the bars will be there (maybe not as much as they would be on an old 4:3 screen).

I have had a 32 inch LCD for a couple of years and whether I play 1.85:1 on my S300 or PS3 the TV seems to default the image to its native 1.78. No big deal. Like jcperley said, the 2.36 and 2.40 movies will have the black bars they way you are used t seeing them. I watched a British 1.66 movie a couple of weeks ago, and the black bars were there on the sides and were almost imperceptible. So don't worry, you ARE seeing the aspect ratio as advertised. Some older anamorphic DVDs may act a little funny, so you may have to play with the Full, Wide, Zoom, etc presets on your TV to get them to look right.

Ok so i have found that the simple thing is the thing wrong with it.
If your widescreen has an aspect ration is it set properly? Like to full or widescreen. Second is your playstation 3 properly configured? Did you tell it that your tv supports all the output relsoutions and is a 16:9? Are you also using component/Hdmi cables? Sorry not in any way trying to insult your ability. It just usually seems to be the thing someone thought they did and didnt. Plus the ps3 come out of box with composite video cables... i thought that was a nice touch. |
