Celine Dion: A New Day 1080i?

Picked up Celine Dion: A New Day… Live in Las Vegas at Best Buy and the entire concert is in 1080i not 1080p as advertised. Anyone else notice this? Thank you for your help in advance. I am using a PS3 and never noticed this problem before.

That can't be... a reviewer over at hidef digest reports 1080p all the way!
BOTH discs as a matter of fact!

This is a stellar 1080p/VC-1 encode, with the kind of you-are-there, picture perfect quality that screams demo disc.

Must be your settings on your PS3
I was watching it in 1080P.

Double and triple checked. 1080i. I changed my settings on the PS3 to not include 1080i and went down to 720p.

I think it's very unlikley to be a bad disc.

I'm almost positive its either your settings or your cables.

I popped in my new Crimson Tide and no problem. 1080p. It is only the Celine Dion BD.
Another thing. The menu for the disc is at 1080p, but when the concert is selected to start it goes down to 1080i.

Not a bad disc. There's no way a bad disc could by chance by encoded at 1080i.

If it is not a bad disc, then how can I fix it? None of my other Blu-rays are doing this. Only this one.

I don't think there's any shows that are shot at 1080p. the show i own (except the one shot of FILM like Queen) are 1080i . Shakira, NIN etc..

It's probably the same issue that the NiN BD had. For the NIN BD, I think it had something to do with it being shot in 1080p30, which isn't directly supported by blu-ray. IIRC, even so, it would work out properly on most standalones but on the PS3, it would end up being 1080i. That's about all I can remember about it. You'll have to search to find more details assuming this is the same issue. It's 1080i on my PS3 as well, btw.

Now, the real question... Is there a problem with the picture? If not, move on. Oh the pain of an informational display...

Yes, it was shot on video and it's probably in the same boat as the NIN disc. It's 1080p30 source material flagged as 1080i60. The result is you still see 1080p30 exactly as it was intended. It's not a "problem."

Thank you all for your help. I went to Best Buy and had it exchanged. Same thing, still 1080i on my PS3. I had them pop it in a Sony standalone BD Player and it played in 1080p. I guess it is just with the PS3. This is the first concert series Blu-ray I have bought and read that the concert was shot using 1080i HD cameras.

By the way, the picture and sound are great. I just want to know I am getting all the bang for my buck when I buy these BD's. They are expensive as we all know. Thank you all again for your help and I am not sweating it anymore.

Many are shot at 1080p, Shakira is 1080p24 and so is Celine. I was at the taping of A New Day, the film crew used high-end Sony cameras, I think the HDC-1500 and the HDC-1000 for the wide shots.

The NTSC is 480/30p so that makes sense.

I think the Celine Dion Blu-Ray disc should NOT include ANY soundtrack at all. She makes my skin crawl. But then again, so does a fire truck siren.

Now Madonna... That's a TRUE vocal talent. I love Confession On A Dancefloor (yep, I have the standard DVD).
