Default Will you be spending MORE or less this Xmas?

At the beginning of the year I was anxiously awaiting for some great new BD releases just before the holidays, so I could go nuts and treat myself. I had also planned on doing some upgrades to my HT setup like upgrading all of the cabling (where I think it needs it) and buying a medium to top of the line power conditioner. But I think I changed my mind.

With the CAN$ taking a nose-dive against the U.S. greenback, the price of oil, the slumping housing market and the financial crisis, I think I'm going to curtail my spending and ride out this wave of uncertainty. My job is pretty solid, so I don't really have to worry about it, but I'd rather err on the side of caution, if you know what I mean.

What is your take on this matter and what are your plans for this holiday season?

I was planning on going on vacation somewhere relatively close this Christmas with a few family members... buying a buncha blu-rays... and upgrading our current home theater setup...

but from the looks of it, that won't be happening this Christmas. =(... I work retail and our hours are terrible. This time last year I was already getting 30+ hours a week as a part timer, now I'm lucky if I get 15. That goes for everyone in my store, pretty much.

I never bother with the current date of the year. I see a game or movie or anything else I want, all I need to do is check with my budget to make sure it won't throw me off-balance, then I purchase it.

Only difference if it's Xmas rather than an ordinary day is that there will be lots of people and long queues at the check-out of the store where I'm doing the purchase.
Then Again if I had kids and family and all that stuff I guess I'd be more considerate of the current date.

More this year. I have a hard time spending money, i usually end up saving it. I save probably 40%+ of my pay every month so i should have some $$ around here somewhere. But i think ill break down and spend a little this christmas.

I will be spending much less this year. With my employer being purchased recently, higher costs of living and two children in daycare I simply cannot afford to spend a lot this year.

i plan on buying myself 2 movies that i know of between now and the end of the year.

other than that, i don't see myself buying a whole lot for myself, would rather spend it on the kids @ this point.

we've spent about the same on family this year as we did last year. for my wife & myself, we decided against buying each other gifts and instead purchased an electrical fireplace insert and i've been building a nice mantel and surround for it w/bookshelves to go in our living room.

Less. We are going to do a Chris Kringle thing this year. Too many people to buy for.

dito, when you start having kids, relatives can expect a DVD of the 'best of' moments.

The way I see, we'll each watch 1 while when we go somewhere, but yes, please don't tell us both what we are in for

it's not so much the out and about stuff, it's the sleep or lack there of that will really hit you.

This boxing day, i will probably pick up some Blu-Ray movies and a PS3 game. I'm still undecided for the ps3 games. I opting for either Bioshock or Dead Space ? Any recommandations ?

Less.. Two kids are more expansive than one, a lot more (bigger place, higher rent, childcare, etc). So less money for other things.
