Quote:
Jay Austin is now a civilian police detective. Colonel Caldwell was his commanding officer years before when he left the military police over a disagreement over the handling of a drunk driver. Now a series of murders that cross jurisdictions force them to work together again. That Austin is now dating Caldwell's daughter is not helping the relationship at all.

This was a decent movie. Kind of a random choice to put out on Blu though.

I remember renting this on VHS tape back then when I was in high school. The best thing about the movie is an opening camera shot of an aircraft carrier from the shoreline that gives a true feel of how massive these ships are. That scene would look awesome on Blu-ray.

1988... Wow. I can't believe how old I've become.

Ugh, what a horribly disappointing film...and I like a lot of Hyams' work.

Anyway, cue the inevitable complaints about how dark the transfer is!

There's about 10-15 seconds of nudity cut from the U.S. release. The original overseas DVD releases contain the uncut version.

I have watched this so many times since it came out in 1988. I never knew of a different version.

Just saw The Presidio on Blu. Excellent print, especially considering this is an older film.

Re: the movie itself, I find this to be extremely underrated, and one of the better mysteries/thrillers from the '80's. The storyline was great, as were the action scenes:

Early on in the film, the night-time car chase through the hilly streets of S.F. was amazing; excellent.

The later foot-chase through Chinatown was also quite intense.

[Show spoiler]I was impressed by the way they tied everything together at the end - as with all great mysteries/thrillers, several unconnected parts made sense when all of the characters came together in the final battle scene at the bottling plant. Who would have thought that these characters (who knew each other in Vietnam) would be working together in order to smuggle diamonds via water bottles?!

Side-notes:

I was amused when the Mark Harmon character ingratiated himself with the female dispatcher at the Water bottling company in order to get info. from her; apparently he was (or at least pretended to be) a Grateful Dead fan & knew she was as well, due to all of the Dead posters on the wall - hilarious

Also, being a huge fan of Aliens, it was nice to see the actress Jennette Goldstein (who played the Colonial Marine Vasquez) in this film - she played the female MP who died early on.

Watched this tonight. Great looking transfer. The chase sequences were fantastic.

But I am disappointed that this version is cut.

What a nice way of telling me that! Maybe you should include more exclamation points to make it clearer!!

Seriously though, I only read the post from yesterday. You can't expect someone to read every single post in a thread especially when those posts are from 4 years ago. Chill out.

There's 15 posts in the entire thread, it's not like 436 pages of it. Anyhoo.

I saw The Presidio in cinemas but can only vaguely recall nudity. The cut shots/scenes are Mark Harmon on top of Meg Ryan pulling down his pants and underwear and another shot of Meg on top of Mark in bed (she's topless).

I can't recall these scenes if they were in the theatrical cut or added to home video. Mind you, I was only 12 when I saw it in cinemas and it was over thirty years ago!
