Default Is this info true

Hi there newbie here, just wanted to know if it's true that you need a really big screen to get the full benefit of blu-ray and 1080p. I am looking between 37-42 inches.

At 37-42 inches, you will see the difference between 1080p and 720p. However it depends more how far you sit from the display. Check out this thread for complete info about this!

screensize and viewing distances are both factors, along with just plain old eyesight.

basically the closer you sit the more noticeable advantage 1080p becomes.

I would go with 1080p if you go with the 42" screen size. 1080P is the future of High Definition since Blu-ray is capped at that resolution. As you sit closer you will notice slightly less motion judder and a tiny bit more resolution. It is questionable if one can really benefit from 1080P on a 37" display though.

Thanks for the info.I'll be sitting between 7 and 10 feet away, so those sizes look ok, now I'll have to choose between lcd and plasma which is a different can of worms. Many thanks.

I wouldn't go with anything less than a 42". The biggest mistake people make and regret is buying a TV that's too small. Usually they have a 27 or 32" and think, Wow a 37" is going to be really big. It's not, especially if your going from 4:3 format to wide screen.

+1

I went from a 27" CRT to a 42" Panny Plasma, which was a huge step up for me. But now I want at least a 50", preferably a 60". The 42" is fine, but sometimes I just wish it were bigger.

Resolution and distance have nothing to do with motion judder. This has to do with 3:2 pulldown due to refresh rates of the set vs. 24p movies. I'm confused by this statement. Also, as has been said, there is NO question that 1080p on a 37" set can be beneficial. It all depends on viewing distance.

Where are you getting this info? To be more helpful to the OP, I too would recommend to go as large as you can. I wish I'd picked up a 46" or a 50" instead of my 42" set.
