Default Help with installation in order to watch and record both cable and antenna

I need some help from my fellow experts.

I have a Sylvania CRT TV (Model 6420FE) and recently, I bought a Homeworx Digital Converter Box (model HW250STB) so I could be able to watch antenna TV with my cable and record the shows I like on VHS (I know; I'm old school like that). The problem is, there's only on coaxial outlet on the back.

I tried using a coaxial cable splitter (F Type RG6 Male to 2 F Female 3 Way) and connected them both, and I got the antenna on channel 4, but no cable. Tried it again on the back of my VCR, same problem and again when I tried connecting a cable to the back on my TV followed by the splitter. The only other option was to use the Video 2 setting and share it with my DVD player and THAT work (Video 1 didn't), but the goal was to watch AND record antenna TV. Now to put simply, the converter blew out and I'm asking for a replacement as we speak.

So I need help or advice on what I should do now? Should I get the replacement, find another box, stick to watching it on Video 2, any ideas? Many thanks!
