Default Blu-ray and 1080i

I have a Sony 50" (I think the part number is KF50WE620, but I am at work and can not be sure. I bought it 5 years ago this december.) Rear projection LCD 1080i TV. I am interested in a Blu-ray player. Will I see an improvemnet in video quality or do I need to have a 1080p TV?

Thanks,
Ken

If you look around this site you will find numerous threads already on this subject with other 1080i television owners giving their support to blu-ray players.

Make the leap, you will not regret it.

Default Thanks!

I appreciate your comments and advice. I have another question. Do you think that players with network connections will eventually allow for streaming of movies so that we do not have to purchase the hard copies?

I have a 57" 1080i Toshiba RPTV w/DVI inputs, and still thoroughly enjoy blu ray. I am hoping to eventually get into the 1080p set though.

There are two players available that can currently do this through Netflix:

LG BD300 and Samsung BD-P2550

I wouldn't pay much attention to the one review on the Samsung considering the poster never owned the player in question.

I have a Pioneer Elite PRO-720HD 64" 1080i HDTV, which is also a rear projection and Blu-ray's look great on it. In a few months I'll be upgrading to a 1080p, but this TV does great until then
