Default Panasonic TH-46PZ80U Plasma vs LG 47LG70 LCD

Best Buy is currently running the Panasonic plasma for $1299 (reg $1699) in this week's ad and will be running the LG on Black Friday for $1499 (reg $1899). Not only is there the name brand debate, but there is also the plasma vs 120hz LCD debate too.

Whatcha think?

I am an owner of the panny, and I have to say that it is absolutely stunning for everything that I have thrown at it. As long as your viewing room is relatively dark, this TV is a safe choice. I advise you to look around a bit. dealnews.com and slickdeals.net. I saw this tv a couple weeks ago for about 1170 shipped. There are going to be some stellar deals. If you are all about 3-D movies, then I would get the LG, however, I think that 3_D is going to take a while to kick off before it is used to its potential. That really is the only use for 120hz. Plasma in my opinion does the best of actually reproducing the type of picture you see in the theaters. It has never let me down. Good luck with your decicion. I saw the 50 inch version for 1300 shipped:

Thank you for the information about the Panny. You mentioned lighting in the room as still being a concern. Does the new anti-glare filter Panasonic have on it still not make that much difference? I guess that's my biggest concern about plasmas because I watch a lot of movies, granted most are at night when it should not really matter. I have had a 32 inch LCD for two years and have loved it, but I have seen so many people comment on their Panasonic plasmas that I am willing to do the coin toss because of the price points.

If you buy that 1300 50" panny from 6ave, I guarantee all your concerns will be completely laid to rest. The antiglare coating is not the best ever, but it is better than none at all. I have had no problem with glare. However, there are no windows behind me when im watching. If you are a movie buff, the plasma will not dissapoint. Me and my three friends all have one and have never looked back.

Here is the deal for you.
1268 shipped for the 50" 1080p, AND, if you go to live.com, register an account and look for cashback, you can get like 2.5% back in 60 days. I just got mine back a couple weeks ago. So for about 1230 you got yourself a nice piece of equipment.

I noticed that the Panny 800 series is listed in the other thread as being 24p compatible, but not the 80 series. Has anyone had any background flicker issues with any of their 80 series Panny plasmas when watching Blu-Ray movies?

Im really debating myself over the Plasma Vs LCd being i play games and also using my tv as a computer screen...and since i have vista i have the sidebar running all the time and i dont wanna buy a tv and have to worry about image retention every 5 minutes.....since i see u play games do u have any problems with Image retention or is that a thing of the past...i understand the picture is better but not having to stare at my screen every 5 minutes to check for IR is worth having slighty less image quality

I just want a good tv with no worries....i get obessed with things like that as most people do....

Careful or you'll go blind and have hairy palms if you do too much of that!

Seriously, if you were not going to use the set a computer monitor, then I'd say get the plasma, no question. In your case, though, I'd say go with the LCD.

Yupper, and thats a good deal on that set. I was looking at the same set in BB this weekend and they would not go lower than 1299 on it.

Do u game on ur plasma? annd if so have u experienced IR..and will having my PC connected to it and having my sidebar on vista staying on the screen cause a problem?

Tax season is approaching fast and i plan on getting a new TV and having trouble deciding.....

Im starting to believe that Image Rentention is just a CON of plasma's that plasama owners deal with but to me its not worth dealing with it just for a better picture it would drive me nuts everyday...
