Hard Facts vs. Half-Truths And Total Nonsense I'm so sick of the Fox News bashing. Keep the anti Fox bullsh*t to yourself, Alan. This isn't the place for it. If it wasn't for Fox News, there would be only one institutionalized point-of-view and absolutely no journalism left in America. You brain dead lemmings crack me up—you get your marching orders from rabid partisan websites like the Daily Kos and Move0n.org. Nowhere is there an opposing point-of-view found at CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN or PBS (it's high time that federal funding for public television be pulled entirely). Occasionally they might put a token conservative on a panel outnumbered by a group of rabid liberals. The left doesn't like Fox News because it is the ONLY news outlet that at least tries to be fair and balanced. They routinely have opposing viewpoints. It's no wonder it consistently trounces all the other cable news networks. It was pathetic hearing MSNBC's own Chris Matthews declare," Barack Obama sends a chill running down my leg." CBS's flunky, Dan Rather was forced into retirement after being caught red-handed reporting fake memos as fact and lets not even start to point out the inaccuracies and bald face lies spewed from the lips of Keith Obermann every night—so bad that the NBC news division pressured MSNBC to remove him from hard news and relegate him to just commentary during the election. If you wanna go to the off topic discussion area to be educated, let me know. I'd love to debate you on the facts. And not your baseless comments that sound like the ravings of some idiot standing on the corner... ![]() It's no wonder broadcast network news ratings continue to shrink and newspaper readership continues its exponential decline. Many of us have cancelled our subscriptions and switched stations. ![]() Last edited by AaronSCH; 11-23-2008 at 07:26 PM. |

Two fine examples of Fox's "Fair and Balanced"
I was at home the day the Valerie Plame story finally broke wide open on televised media. I watched the first few minutes of each news station on the noon hour to see how they all covered it because I had been following the story for almost a year already..... and they all headlined with the story. Fox news dropped it to the second half hour and ran it right AFTER a story about a florida zookeeper that was bitten by an orangutan. Then a few months ago, I turned it over to Fox to see how they were covering some election news. When I switched over they were about to go to commercial and were doing one of those "upcoming story" type screens. It was a picture of Jimmy Carter with the caption "Pinhead Alert." Obviously the story was going to be ripping on something Jimmy Carter had said. When they came back from commercial the host... the one that gets all red faced and yells... I forget his name.... was going ON AND ON AND ON, about some caption MSNBC had put up about John McCain not knowing how many houses he owns. He went on at great length about how DISRESPECTFUL it was to treat a presidential candidate that way. Of course the irony was that not just moments before they had referred to an actual ex president as a pinhead. |

I'm not crazy about ANY of the network news outlets, and most of the news media as well. Heck, I work for what some people might call a "right-wing" media company, who have on occasion chosen to not use something because they didn't agree with it (pro-Democrat, anti-Republican). I don't agree with it (on whichever side of the fence one sits), but that's the way the media is these days. I give Fox News credit though, at least it's owner (Rupert Murdoch) has admitted to Fox News being biased whereas most media companies aren't so open about their biases. THAT BEING SAID, I still give as much credence to Fox News as I do the crazy guy standing on the corner, and that's not Fox News "bashing", that's simply me saying that just because Fox News says sale prices are going to be slashed soon (which they probably are given the economy), doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Also, I don't care for being called a "brain-dead lemming" because I do not like a channel. I have all the "religious" channels blocked out of my favorites list on TV. Does that mean I have something against "religious" people? No! I'm one myself. I have MOST of the sports channels I get blocked out of my favorite channels as well? Does that mean I hate sports? Well, I'm not real fond of them, but the point is, I'm sick and tired of people assuming things about me because I don't like a NEWS channel... well, guess what, I don't like FOX NEWS!! Does that mean I'm a Democrat? Possibly, but not necessarily! ![]() ![]() I made, what I considered to be, a harmless joke (it wasn't political in nature since it had to do with holiday sales) on another thread, which turned into something else while I was trying to do some Christmas shopping. I apologize if I offended anyone with my dislike of a channel (BTW, I rarely watch TNT and the Disney Channel, I apologize to anyone who likes these channels). ~Alan |

Remember Howard Sterns movie "Private Parts". The network polled to find out why people listened to Howard Stern even though they hated him. The answer was "to hear what he would say next". Well I think people only watch Fox News to see what utter rubbish they will say next. Concerning Blu-Ray or other technology coverage, none of the media outlets know what they are talking about. They all report inaccurate trash. |

Just to let Aaron let in a little secret.
When both the right wing and left wing fire at the corporate media (I listen to both conservative and liberal radios where I live), it means they are roughly at the center, some leaning a tad left, some leaning a tad right. You want to know why? Corporate media are owned by Conglomerates who want to make money. This is a rather conservative point of view btw, as they also hate taxes, and would rather choke than give good benefits to their employees, if it means saving a buck. But I digress. The best way to make money as a news entity is to tell the people what they want to hear, or what interests them. For ratings. And that would also be about mostly sensationalizing, blood thirsty, sleazy looking news. Politically? You better try to be center, because according to most studies, there's roughly 50-50 when looking at opinionated Liberal vs Conservative, and a chunk of people who float in the middle who do not want any strongly opinionated -anything-. They just want to be entertained. This being said, the funny thing about Fox News, is that -only- the most hardcore conservatives will try to defend its "fair and balanced" reporting take on news. Everyone else, liberal or conservative, knows what to expect. You only had to watch the desperate looks on the faces of Fox News anchors on Nov. 4th to know where the "fair and balanced" could be shoved. |

Ratings don't lie, pal. You can rationalize that all you want, but the bottom line is that FNC consistently blows-away the competition every single day. |

MODS,
Can we PLEASE close/delete this thread. I was naive enough to think that in a post-election time, I could make a joke that was obviously not taken in the manner in which it was intended. Though I was not the OP in the original thread, my comment became the OP for this thread, and I wish it closed. I also apologize for the extra work my comment caused you. Thank you! ![]() ~Alan Last edited by Alan Gordon; 11-24-2008 at 01:30 AM. |
