Default Wall-E (3 Disc) problem

hey guys, just wondering if anyone of you have tried to play Wall E on a bluray equiped laptop.

well I have, and the i've been havin a "small" problem:

everything loaded fine and I could watch all the "coming to bluray", previews, and ads stuff, however, when it reached the main title where I espected to see the movie's main menu, it just went blank and nothing happened, Tried many times, the same thing

the laptop I'm using is Vaio AW series, many other movies are fine on this laptop and I don't think it's a software problem since I could play IronMan with no problem

just wonderin if anyone of you had the same problem or perhaps it's just a isolated incident that I need to get a new disc. I haven't tried on my BluRay player nor PS3 yet since I'm out.

any ideas? cheers!

New AW, Nice!
What playback software did it some with?
My last AR came with WinDVD BD - refuses to play newer discs. Just sits there.
PowerDVD 8 Ultra or ArcSoft Totalmedia Theatre will play anything.

well, it played kung fu panda with no problem at all, besides the BD drive is 2.0 and the laptop just came out recently, so i dont really think it would be a firmware problem. ahhhh, who knows, maybe just the disc, i'm goin to try to play on my BluRay stand alone, see wat happens!

thanks for ur reply. cheers!

oh yeah, any new SONY, I just have to have them! haha

well this one as u probably already know all Vaio comes with WinDVD, and yes i dont really like the software. no surprise there! and it played all discs with no problem at all, KillBill, IronMan, BatMan begins, KungFu Panda, so i dont think it's software nor firmware problems, and also as i stated, everything else, the previews, "coming to bluray", "coming to theater"all that worked perefectly. guess just the disc, or maybe the computer, oh man, if it is the laptop, it would be such a hassle, as i have to ship it back to Tokyo, errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. haha

goin to try it on my stand alone and see what happens.

thanks for the input!

I have two AR series VAIOs.
Both came with WinDVD BD - it will play some discs, others it won't.
I still have it on the AR190G - nostalgic reasons, but have replaced it here on this one.
I really prefer AcrSoft TotalMedia Theatre, but PowerDVD8 Ultra works well too.

^^^ Those two will play any disc I have thrown at them.
I'll try to go get Wall*E today and see what happens.

I'd love to get an AW!

That actually holds true for older DVDs. I've had numerous problems w/ WinDVD in the past and using PowerDVD will play everything. I think WinDVD just needs to scrap their whole product.

Mine stayed black and wouldn't play anything on my PC blu-ray drive. Probably because I'm running PowerDVD 7 and not 8 though...

uh, no biggie, haha, i watched via TV and stand alone, very nice, guess i'll call SONY to see what can be done with the laptop.

never fun if u bought something from Japan and havin a problem with it, but it's worth it, as it hase better configs which cannot be bought in north america, and MORE IMPOROTANTLY, MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER customer service!

so i guess it is a software problem then, hmmmm, oh well. i dont really need it to play on a laptop anyway, the quality if not so good comparing to stand alone, and especially the screen is nothing close to what a XBR8 is, so i'm alrite with it.

well problem with the AW is , it looks cheap, cuz it's made in China now, and wel.... it's alrite, AR is better IMO

The ARs are also made in China... so is nearly every computer component you buy.

These ARs are nice.
If I had the money I would buy an AW without hesitation.

well not really, that's why i always buy SONY flagship models

x505, TZ, TT, SZ, Z, are all made in Japan and will be that way

my AR was made in Japan, and I honestly thought the AW would too, but to my surprise, it is not! I might exchange it for somethin else, I wanted a powerful computer to do some video and photo editing, but a mobile one. I guess i'll just have to stick with Type R, even tho it is a desktop, at least it's still made in Japan, so the quality is absolutly out of this world. just love SONY. hehe

The first AR series laptop, the VGN-AR190G.
Sony's flagship in June 2006(the first Blu-ray laptop sold in The United States):

Made in China

Sony VGN-A190, the Flagship of 2004:

Made in China

AR #2 - VGN-AR730E/B.
While not the top of the line, it is an AR.

Once again, Made in China.

i see, so u bought urs here in the States.

I buy my stuff only in JAPAN, in fact I have a long term VIP account at SONY Tokyo headquater becuz of the amount i buy, as well as being a bigger shareholder (and contributor when they ask me to), so I got news on new products b4 official announcements, and i got the products I chose to buy directly shipped to me b4 official release. And all my products (flagship SONY products only) are made in Japan. 100%, that's why i was surprised this time that the AW isn't made in Japan. well, at least my Z and TT r still made in Japan! , and even my XBR3, 5 and 8 are all made in Japan. that was quite a surprise actually.

Well, yeah I bought them here!

As you can see, I have a couple "flagships" as well and yes, they were Made in China.
I also have a (now) dinosaur VAIO - PCG-FXA63. It was the top of it's line in 2001-2002...

Guess where it was made?

Thanks!

EDIT: Oh yeah, Wall-E plays fine in PowerDVD 8 Ultra and ArcSoft TMT - including BD-Live.
On Both AR machines.
Plays the movie and extras but no BD-Live with WinDVD 9.

WALL-E (fantastic flick, btw) is a BD-Live Blu-Ray movie - some systems have problems with it, especially those with minimal RAM configurations or other applications running at the same time.

The easiest way to deal with BD Live is to cut it off from the 'net completely so it can't connect - shut down your wireless adapter, and that should take care of it.

thank you for ur reply!

and yes i agree, that Wall-E is a great movie, and I also understand it is a BD-Live movie just like IronMAN, KungFu panda to name a few which I tried on the same laptop, and AW being the world most powerful multimedia laptop has actually more processing power and RAM configs than most desktops, so NO movies or any kinda applications would be a problem for the laptop to handle!

as the others suggested, it was simply a problem with this infamous WinDVD for BD software, somehow it has a glitch that prevents it from workin properly!
