I just found this :Multiregion Blu-ray player. ( sony or Pioneer)

Player has been modified to play both blu-ray region A and B, as well as DVD region 1 and 2.
You can find more at www.dvdirect.net or www.stegen.com
I hope it' a perfect solution for BD fans ( and those who are really mad about regions..)

I think in the future most BD players will be multiregion like today's DVD players...

interesting but the sony warranty would be void if the player has been modified.

Probably not worth the risk at that price.

I wouldn't trust the modifications. i know my first dvd player was modified...
anyway, my current laptop is multi-region for Blu, region 2 for DVD.
you just need to use different software for each region.

Nope it is a hardware kit from I.C.O.S.

You can even buy the kit separately for several existing Blu-ray players.

Multi region/multi system dvd players are all over the place in europe. In the USA they they are not sold in stores but you can buy them online easy enough. I guess we don't worry to much about European movies because the world wide proliferation of Hollywood. I bought a multi region/system dvd player for all the russian dvd's i have.

That is one thing I'm really looking forward to with blu is that the specs for high def are the same in America, Japan, Europe and everywhere no more of this NTSC vs PAL crap.

I was disappointed to know that they still have regional coding but that was the insistance of Fox I believe. But thanks to you dear Europeans it will only be a matter of time before companies start making multi region blu-ray players.

They've modchipped these players

There's no guarantee that future firmware updates won't brick them, unless it's a mod that can be turned off to restore the factory hardware conditions.

You get a 1 year warrenty, should work with all firmware updates acording to them, but you might need to reflash

All of my DVD players are multiregion. Here in the UK where we can pick up titles from the USA in English made it essential. My first DVD player was a modded DVP-S725 and it is still working. I'll maybe look at this when my guarantee has expired on my BDP-S500.

The fact that my DVD players (Pioneers) were all multi-region gives me hope that Pioneer with produce one themselves.

I would have liked to get this but it costs way too much. Even that kit costs a lot. It'll be great if the PS3 could be unlocked.

Either way, it's not a problem anymore for me cos I was able to get a region B PS3 after a lot of trouble.

According to bluraymods.com the chip only becomes active when switching regions, then turns off again.

I've sent an Email asking about firmware upgrades though. I'm quite curious as to what their answer will be.

I have many "European Movies" that ARE NOT available in Region 1. That is reason enough to own a Multi-Regional DVD player IMHO!
