Default Watched the whole Scream Trilogy this week

Had never seen any of them before, and I really enjoyed them.

I liked the first a lot because it was a sort of reboot for the slasher genre, and I enjoyed all the references to old school horror films.

The second one I liked a bit more than the first because the kills were more creative and I think the suspense was a bit higher, and running off the same formula as the first was not a bad idea.

But the third, it was a bit far out and had the "been there done that" feel to it, it was not bad just was nothing new and interesting.

I am pretty stoked for the 4th one now!

the 1st one is the only good one cause it brought something else to the slasher gag. And the wassup mask is the shizzy they should of used that lol hey doesnt look scary but a guy chasing u with a knife is not a funny thing lol

Ya the first one is awesome. 2nd is good and 3rd is okay. Great trilogy overall. I hope it gets the Blu treatment. The first movie really needs it, as the DVD transfer they released is AWFUL.

I'm glad you liked them! These are some of my favorite horror films. I agree with your assessment.

Scream -- This one is pretty special since it revitalized the entire genre. It was fresh, funny, and intelligent. It was able to spoof the cliches of the horror slasher genre while actually still remaining a horror film itself. The self awareness of it all was refreshing, especially to critics who hated the dumb characters of the 80s slasher films. Sadly, the films that tried to capitalize on the success of Scream beat the 'self awareness' aspect to death and made many wishing the genre would return to the 80s style slashers.

Scream 2 -- I think I like the second slightly better also because the death scenes were awesome! Also, this film had many nail biting chase scenes that were suspenseful. I miss chase scenes in horror films. It seems lately that all the films are simply kill kill kill with no genuine suspense or build up with a great chase scene. The studio "maze-esque" room chase sequence was pretty suspensful as well as the cop car sequence. All great stuff. Plus, I've always had a soft spot for Sarah Michelle Gellar and I loved her small scene as the sorority sister.

Scream 3 -- This one felt pretty tired, and the characters all pretty much looked haggard at this point. The death scenes lacked imagination. Part of it was due to Kevin Williamson not being able to return, but I think a lot of it had to do with Columbine. When this film came out in 2000, Columbine happened just one year earlier, and the ratings board was being very strict on horror films, which is why many of the death scenes lacked much bite or blood. The highlight of this movie was probably Parker Posey.. she was hilarious. Also Sidney's chase through the set was pretty nostalgic when I watched it in theaters the first time.

I'd be first in line buying this triology! It has great nostalgic value to me plus the films have still held up well over time.

I love these movies! Al 3 the same amount. I mean, I was growing up in middle and high school when they came out and they have a nostalgic feel to me now. I like the 3rd a lot too. It gets a bad rap I think.
[Show spoiler] I love that Roman is Sidney's brother! I mean the fight they have at the end is great IMO. The actor did a great job with that character and it ends the trilogy very well.

I was just reading the wiki entries on these movies at work yesterday, and then I posted in a thread that I really wanted these on blu. Still true! I absolutely love these movies, I think they are each extremely smart and scary and very rewatchable.

It's worth nothing that the Scream idea was first used in New Nightmare. So if you like Scream then try that too =].

I pretty much enjoyed these flicks. There's a nice blend of humor with horror, especially the first movie. Still plenty of good scares though.

That was one hell of an opening. The only thing that surprised me just as much (without really spoiling it) was the scene in the quad from the second movie.

I think I read recently that Wes Craven was trying to put something together for another movie.
