I'm surprised Toshiba hasn't tried to sue the Blu-ray people everytime a Blu is referred to as a DVD, because that's a DVD they'll never make any money on
![]() It doesn't bother me that much but it would be nice if the correct terminology was used. Irritates me a little more when people say Blue-ray! ![]() |

Personally, I'm beginning to think that Blu players might sell more - and be made more clear to the layman - if instead of calling it a Blu-ray player, they advertised it as something like "Sony Blu-ray and DVD player" or "Panasonic Blu-ray and DVD player" because even with advertising many people don't know it will play their DVDs. I think that seeing it officially called "Blu-ray and DVD player", it would do 2 things: 1. tell people that it plays both formats, and 2. by the separating of the words Blu-ray and DVD, it tells them these are two different things, that it is not "Blu-ray DVD" but there are "Blu-rays" and "DVDs".

Heres a random example.. "Requirements DVD Drive or DVD Player" http://shop1.frys.com/product/530130...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG That movie is Vacancy for Blu why does it list DVD player as a requirement to play the movie... Argh I guess maybe if more people complained they would fix it. Last edited by dk3dknight; 11-25-2008 at 04:37 PM. |

It annoys me when the ebay auctions say they are blu-ray (however they spell it) and it has nothing to do with blu-ray whatsoever. I have run into a bunch that are just regular DVDs, and the only reference to Blu-ray is in the title of the auction.
And yes, people who misspell things annoys me more. Especially since so many people in the world have forgotten how to speak proper English (no matter the region). 133t or Net speak is NOT ENGLISH! I actually had a guy in my college classes online that would type everything in ALL CAPS, use wrong or no punctuation, had little regard for grammar, and had nothing to say. Right now people need to learn that txt speak is NOT "NETIQUETTE" and neither netiquette not txt (or 133t, or whatever they call it now) is not acceptable communication for anything outside cell phones and forums. But I digress. People need to stop using the name of Blu-ray if they are not talking about Blu-ray, and DVD is not the same thing and should not be used as part of the title. However I can understand it a little as a way of getting consumers to understand that it is just like a DVD but HD. I am just afraid that this will confuse them into thinking Blu-ray will play on a DVD player, or that they have no other differences besides the HD part. They really should just keep them separate to show new consumers that they are not the same. |

My English teacher in collage took off points for using contractions she always said they were poor English.
I find working at a airlines has severally affected my linguistic skills working long nights on manuals tends to numb the brain.. I swear it kills braincells. |

Misspelling "Irritate", we can be magnanimous enough to live with...
Misspelling "Awful", we can be gracious under pressure... Misspelling "With", however, you might want to ask yourself some searching questions about your formative years. ![]() |

And I guess you all are perfect
![]() The point is not my freakin spelling but that you get the point in which I'm trying to put out there. Be happy I can make a sentence. These forums are not to get the spelling right, but to discuss and share Blu-ray. I'm sure I'll get slammed for this post ![]() ![]() |
