"Within three years it will just be HD DVD." – Tadashi Okamura, the Toshiba chairman, at the APRILone trade show.

According to the latest sales numbers from Nielsen VideoScan, the HD DVD format appears to be gaining momentum.

It's now March, and HD DVD appears to be holding its edge -- proving either that the assumption was incorrect, or that HD DVD's apparent momentum didn't need the crutch. Moreover, the total of HD DVD discs sold now outweighs the number of Blu-Ray discs sold, giving both the short-term and long-term edge to Toshiba's format.
