So I received my Polk CS2 center channel. This thing is huge and is so big for the stand that I currently own. Is it ok to place the center channel on the bottom shelf without losing sound quality/experience ?

Hey There,
Yes, its absolutely fine to put it there. You don't want it so low that its separated from the screen by a lot. But whether you put it below or above, its the same diff. I have a very nice home theater and I have my CC below the screen and it sound great. On my upstair family room with a 5.1 system, I have the center channel inside a cabinet with the door having a cloth front and its below the 60 inch TV and it even sounds fine. Best way though, experiment. HT stuff is all about personal taste and nothing else. KCcarl |

Angle it up towards your seating area, to get the sweet spot.

You could get a cavity resonance if the speakers have walls on all sides of it. The speaker is going to interact with those surfaces, creating a boundary reinforcement that will make voices sound hollow and mid bass heavy. I would try for a more open position, even though that is probably the most convient, and visually acceptable.

Agreed. I have put my center above and below and as long as it is close to the screen you shouldn't notice a difference between the two. The biggest difference you'll see is if the speaker is enclosed by a cabinet. You'll get some resonance off of the cabinet walls. Either way, if the speaker is close to the screen, above or below, it will still sound like the voices are coming from the screen.

To my knowledge, you ideally want all of your speakers to be at about ear level while seated. However the CS2 does have an angled back so that you can flip it upside-down and angle it up towards your seating position from the floor/low shelf. You might want to try that and see how it sounds.
