Default When will Sony's PS3 really catch up?

I'm in the military and a playstation guy. Everyday at work the arguments, jokes and comments arise about the 360 and the PS3. In my shop we have 7 PS3 owners 5 360 and 1 WII (we shut the wii guys up fast because he doesn't have backup). I find myself fighting a losing battle because the 360 guys make valuable points. I'm not gonna into the details. Other than what's under the hood, what can I say to keep the PS3 eye to eye with the 360 guys?

How about for starters

Behind Enemy Lines (20th Century Fox)
Courage Under Fire (20th Century Fox)
Kingdom Of Heaven (20th Century Fox) old war
Men Of Honor (20th Century Fox)
The Great Raid (Buena Vista/Miramax)
Pearl Harbor (Buena Vista/Touchstone)
The Lord Of War (Lions Gate)
Flyboys (MGM)
Hart's War (MGM)
Windtalkers (MGM)
We Were Soldiers (Paramount)
Black Hawk Down (Sony/Columbia/Revolution)
Tears Of The Sun (Sony/Columbia/Revolution)
Stealth (Sony)

in High Def multichannel high resolution sound.

I'm sure others will chime in with games and lots of other "points"

How about start by creating topics that say when will the 360 catch up? It's amazing how many new members start new topics where the PS3 is "behind", "in-trouble" etc, etc.

In simple terms..

Is there anything the 360 can do the PS3 can't? No.

Is there anything the PS3 can do the 360 can't? Yes. Many.

I assume they will be selling their XBOX 360's now so they don't lose too much money before the upgraded model comes out that matches the PS3 in some areas, but still deficient in others.

I think a few of you miss what jbuttler007 said. He ask other than what’s under the hood. For now the only thing I can think of is you can watch Blu-ray movies right out of the box without add-ons.
I think 360 will be winning the more games argument for at least a year maybe more, so just take it. (I'm not counting all the backward games) After all PS2 had more games than Xbox so you can't blame them for saying the same thing now.

Just because there's a new Xbox 360 coming out, doesn't mean the older one is out of date and everyone will have to go out and buy the new one.

Honestly I love being neutral, both systems are great. Both systems have great games and both systems have more coming.

lol the wii guy lmao. anyways the ps3 has a wider variety of online stuff(can`t wait for the home thing) it has way more support as in game studios(counting the ps2 ones) and there nothing relay to say the ps3 has only fully launched for less then 2 weeks so look at the 360 2 weeks after fully launched(or 6 month after first launch) and compar that to the ps3 becuase thats were the ps3 is know could u elaberate on the points there making

You can also let them know about the laggy servers Xbox 360 has for Live for $50 a year. Sony is providing basically lag free servers for online games according Insomnaic Games. Look at the "10 reasons PS3 will win the console war" (something like that) post. It should be very helpful.

ask them how many games the 360 had at this point last year?....

at least we can turn around and watch movies....they didn't offer this feature this time last year....

plus I won't need to upgrade my PS3 unless I want more hard-drive space...

the 360 requires several add-ons....if you want to connect wirelessly, watch hd-dvd movies....if u want HDMI and 1080p upscaling...you have to buy a new 360..

I hate the 360 and returned mine....it was having problems and I just said fudge it and returned it....

Whats under the hood of the 360? How about hardware that keeps overheating time and time again. The 360 does have more hardware problems than any of the other next gen console. Who cares how good it is if it has so many problems...

On second thought, why don’t you all stop arguing who has a better system and enjoy all of them, including the Wii. I think you all would have more fun playing them, than arguing over who has the bigger manhood.

The bottom_ line is that the PS3 was released 4 and a half months ago ! Not even a one year old. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarter releases will truly make the system shine. Often industry leaders are subjected to unfair criticism from the media and fans, and Sony is no different. The PS3 is a very innovative machine it will be a shame for third party developers to waste time and money producing games exclusively for M$ 360.

It can double as a personal computer once you install the Linux distribution of your choice on it. Unlike Windows, Linux is free to obtain and distribute.

If you're an early adopter for any electronic device, you'll go through what we call 'growing pains'. I was the only one of my friends that had a 1080i TV three years ago but it didn't matter when there really wasn't any content available to show it off ( I remember watching a dog show on ESPN HD and being wowed).

The PS3 IS a better designed system than the Xbox 360. The design on it is amazing. The whole argument of 'how many 360 titles were out at this point last year' doesn't really matter when the 360 does have a ton of games out NOW. I own both systems and couldn't be any happier. I was going to get a Wii but my roommate did and I'm certain that I won't be buying one any time soon (it needs to get games I'd enjoy).

I've never been a believer in 'blind brand loyalty'. When I go to buy something, I usually research and ask myself 'what would be best for ME?' Who cares about defending your choices to someone else...especially when they're so closed minded they're going to lock up and ignore you.

I 100% agree with you, I also own both systems. I'm going to try out the Wii when I visit my friends to see how much I'm going to like it.

I have the Wii and I rescently sold my Xbox360 and all games for about $700; used it to get some more toys. Wii is just in a completely different league. It rocks! If you have the extra money to spend; get a Wii!

I did the exact opposite.

I am selling my Wii and all games and accessories I got, to the amount of 500 euros. I can safely say Wii is not for the hardcore gamer, but the casual. After 6 months out, the only truly standout game is still Wii Sports. If you like your games as quick-fixes, cute looking, and sadly, not that many good ones to choose from, then by all means get a Wii. If you like your Gran Turismo's, Colin McRae's, Call Of Duty's, Tomb Raider's, Final Fantasy's, Madden's, Pro Evo's Soccer, GTA's, etc, stay away from the Wii. It will never give you any mature versions of those games. Ever. (Another reason to avoid the Wii is if you have an HD set-up. Even through components, 480p on games looks insanely bad).

360 or PS3 are the real contenders here. As far as gaming goes, the 360 has a clear edge right now. Its got a decent library, and the controller rocks (much prefer it to the PS3's)

As for the PS3, and what it brings under the hood, that the 360 can't follow, try this:

1. Free online gaming

2. Built-in WiFi

3. Built-in memory card readers

4. Blu-ray movie playback - and a mighty fine job at that

My idea is... If you can afford it, why not have all consoles?

If not, keep being a Playstation guy. Say what people will about Sony, and I sure have a grudge with them for all the marketing lies they manage everytime they prepare a console launch, trying to take down enemies along the way with misinformation, they did a great job with Playstation 3.

well a big one is ..the playstation 3 can install other OS's an you can have your playstation 3 do more than just games...it can be used as a full PC..so for $500.00 or $600.00

tell them..
we have a new games console
we have a new HD-MOVIE PLAYER
WE HAVE A new PC

all for $500.00 or $600.00

an if they say we have MEDIA EXTENDER capabilitys...WOW what a suprise SO DO WE....well the playstation 3 has ALSO...for MEMORY cards FOR GAME SAVES...WE USES "IT" STANDARD flash memory an STANDARD "IT" HARDDRIVES...hey how is that non standard HARDDRIVE UPGRADABILITY COMEING...($180.00 for a 120 GIG harddrive) ...the xbox360 fanboys ....whipped..like the family pig...

I would agree with you; however, I sold my Xbox360 instead. I think Sony will have sold over 7 million by the end of the year and the Wii over 10 million. It is hard to compare the two because they are not trying to compete; although they are. PS3 is definately gold and I would bank on Sony "catching up" through the summer.
