Hi, I am slowly upgrading my home system. I want to get a blu ray player, but will I get any benefits.
I have a Sony 32s3000 HDTV I have a Sony STR-K740P Sound System Will my sound system be able to work with a blu-ray player. I realize I wouldn't get all the wiz bang sound improvements, but I can't upgrade the sound system just yet. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks |

So it will down sample the audio. My system does DTS, and Dolby 5.1.

The biggest benefit you'll get is on the VIDEO side. Picture quality will be superior.
You are however limited by what your sound system can reproduce. As far as I know, there is no such thing as upscaling your AUDIO. If you want better audio (and you will) I'd suggest starting a savings program, because Blu-ray is about the total experience (PQ/AQ). |

Blu ray works fine with any surround sound set up. Right now I have an $80 POS from Wally world that is ONLY DD! No DTS to be found. But it still plays everything. My savings program is almost complete though and theres a 606 and some Polks in my... um.. my families..lol.. near future.

If you buy a PS3 I can tell for a fact that every audio codec works through the TV. I just put PC speakers in the headphone socket of the TV and it reproduces great sound no matter what audio i'm putting through it.
I am not sure how stand alone players work. But every single blu ray disc has the DD5.1 and DTS standard codecs on them anyway. If you buy a warner title, normally they only have those two anyway. As for PQ, of course it will be better, but your small screen will of course restrict your viewing experience. It should sparkle alot more and the detail will be great. |
