what kind of wire will you guys recommend. i have read that a 12 gauge will be good. and i heard banana plugs dont work with the speakers and receiver. i also need a subwoofer cable right? i also should be getting my hdmi's from monoprice soon, but i forgot to order wire speaker.

Anyway... for speaker wire with that system, you could go with 14 or 16 guage and be just fine, unless you need to stretch the surrounds out longer than 50 ft. And you're right, banana plugs won't work with the polk speaker set, but you could install them to the receiver end of the speaker wire and then you'll be half way done for the future... makes connections really easy those banana plugs- I have them on mine. Yes, you need a subwoofer cable, as your sub is "active" meaning it has the amp built in, and not "passive", deriving it's power from the receiver... good luck!! |

No, you don't need both hooked up. You can with a y-cable hooked to the sub cable if you want, but it isn't necessary. If there is a red and white input on the sub, plug the cable into the white one as that is usually which input is used as mono. What subwoofer do you have?

12ga is probably a bit overkill for these speakers. However, it's certainly not a bad purchase, especially if you get them at a good price. However... if you get 14ga or thicker, I strongly recommend to get some bent pin connectors. Basically, the spring clips for the RM6750 could be a little better and too much pressure on them from thicker cables makes them pop out a bit. I got it to work fine with 14ga but it's a bit of a trick.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about: http://www.cablestogo.com/product.as...latedItem=true Quote:
As for sub cable, I just bought this and am very happy: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 Last edited by aramis109; 12-07-2008 at 02:50 PM. |
