Hi, I just joined this site and I just went blu. Blu-ray that is! Last weekend, my mom bought me an early Christmas present: a Sharp BD Player and my first Blu-ray Disc, Casino. I already have a Sharp HDTV along with an HDMI cable, but I'm having a couple of technical issues that I hope someone could answer.
1. The player gives me the option of having HDMI or Composite output, so I use the HDMI of course. The problem is a message pops up on screen saying "Copy protected signals cannot be outputted to the connected equipment." That is when it is in HDMI output, but when I switch it to composite it works fine. 2. The other problem is I am having a very tough time getting the movie (Casino) to load. It starts up with showing the Universal title, asks me for a language, shows the rating symbol, etc. and then just goes black. It sounds like it is processing within the player, but nothing is happening. The funny thing is when I put in a DVD like WALL-E, it loads very fast and starts the movie. Has anyone had any problems like these? Do I need to update the player or something or could it just be a bad disc? Some feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ![]() |

Update the firmware on the player for #2. The only thing I can think of for #1 is that it's either a 1.1 cable, or it's bad. I was trying to read and see whether or not earlier HDMI cables that weren't tested with HDCP would work or not, and while I can't find anything that says they won't, that may be something to try- maybe borrow a different HDMI cable. I have to admit I'm guessing here and could very well be wrong.
How do you have your setup hooked up? Do you have a receiver? If so, what model? |

To the OP: As Crack said, you'll need to provide the model number of your TV and what brand/kind of HDMI cable you are using (where did you get it). |

Sorry if I was too vague. It's a Sharp HDTV and the model is LC-26AD22U. It has a built in DVD player (I know, it sounds weird to have a Blu-ray Player connect to it, but my parents bought it last year as a gift and thought it would be nice to have one along with it.)
I first used an HDMI cable from Comcast. I tried it and it didn't work. When I got the Sharp Blu-ray player (Model BD-HP21) I also got a Rockefish HDMI cable. I tried it and it still didn't work. The tv came out last year and I believe the player just came out in September. I did read somewhere in the manual about updating the player, but I just want to be sure from you guys about any other suggestions. I went to Best Buy earlier today and a guy told me I may need to do a firmware update. Is this true? |

I'm all for cutting folks some slack, but there is a limit that applies in this case. You don't crap in another thread, especially with a half-assed question for which no rational person would even think could be answered based on the total lack of information provided. I see that you didn't take the time to help him out, did you? I, at least, provided some avenues down which he could pursue.

Well, I just watched The Dark Knight last night! Weird how that work. I didn't expect that to happen.
Anyway, so to do the firmware update, do I just save it onto a USB drive, then download it onto the player? And if so, would would you recommend for space (2 or 4 GB or higher?) |
