Default Ever find yourself rooting for the villian?

Just a fun question my co-worker and I were kicking around the other day....Ever see a movie where your sympathies and allegiance lied with the bad guy(s)?? I was just thinking about when I first saw Terminator 2 in the theater. I positively HATED that obnoxious arrogant punk kid John Connor as played by Edward Furlong (though I liked the same character when played by Nick Stahl in T3). I understand that those negative aspects of the character were due to him coming into adolescence and having had a tough, rouge life. But I hated him nonetheless and actively rooted for T-1000 the whole movie to decapitate him with dull piano wire. Obviously there are film fans who couldn't help but root for The Joker in TDK, or Hannibal in SOTL...They are both so likeable, flashy, iconic characters...it's hard not to like them. Any other movies where you didn't give a damn if the good guy lost???

Never really thought about it, but Silence of the Lambs certainly hits home with me....

Yes, I actually like a lot of villains and wished they would win and destroy the so-called "hero" of the picture. But usually those are in movies where the filmmakers had made a serious miscalculation and made the protagonist too obnoxious, smarmy or "cool". (The kid in Terminator 2 is a great example, by the way.) Only Bugs Bunny can get away with being obnoxious and still be likable.

Speaking of cartoons, I usually root for Sylvester the cat, Wile E. Coyote, and Tom from the MGM Tom & Jerry series. They are more sympathetic to me, and it's sometimes painful to see all the abuse they take. (Although Wile E. is usually at his funniest when bad things happen to him.)

Uma Thurman's character in Kill Bill is one where I wished she lost. I found Lucy Liu and Michael Madsen more likable. (She's not obnoxious, but she seems like a cipher as a character.)

Yes Darth Maul is the best part of Episode 1 and I sure wish he would have stayed at least until Episode 2, did not really see a reason for the character to be gone.

Yeah I was rooting for Captain Spaulding in House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. He was such a terrific and funny character and I didn't care for the "heroes".

I felt sorry for those cats too. I actually hated Jerry the mouse

and since we are on the subject not a villian per se, but I always find myself rooting for the rabbit in the trix commercials, give the poor rabbit some Trix you selfish kids, geesh.

You know they should make more movies where the villian wins. We always see the good guys win. No country For old Men I guess was kind of that but ironically I did not like the ending.

I do. There are movies like "the devils rejects" (HIS ONLY GOOD MOVIE) where I want them to win.

But sometimes in slashers like Jason, freddy, and michael when I just HATE the main actor and can't wait for them to get killed.

Everybody loves John McClane, but I almost find myself rooting for Hans Gruber everytime. Just because Alan Rickman is so good as a villain. He almost steals the movie from Willis. Almost.

true that, he has the perfect villain's voice. even in movies where he's not the villain he terrifies me.
