Default S350 Aspect Ratio Problem

Apologies in advance for the basic nature of this question.

I have a Sony BDP-S350 playing on a 40in Sony Bravia LCD 1080p. Hooked up thru HDMI.

I was under the assumption that 16:9 BluRay titles would fill up the whole screen, but i'm still viewing in letterBox. i've set the player for 16:9 in the menus. Sorry again, i'm sure this has been asked a million times.

Thanks for any help.

If a film's aspect ratio is proportionately wider than 16:9---say, 2.35:1---you'll still get letterboxing. 16/9=1.77777777 etc; 1.78:1 is the only ratio that will fill a 16:9 screen.

learn to love OAR (originial aspect ratios)... you'll never know what you've missed until you've seen it how the director wanted you to see it. in other words, the letterbox preserves the theater experience. if you want to rid yourself of it, get a projector

Default gotta love this forum!

I love how every technical help request (like why isn't even 16:9 movie playing in full screen on Blue-Ray) gets answered by 'learn to love OAR'...

Are you all full time movie industry employees or just paid lobbyist?

What? So now one has to be a paid professional to respect the artist's intent?
