Default do you think the PS3 will ever use the 400gb Blu-ray discs?

Pioneer? says it is compatible with existing BD players. So it'd be simple for the PS3 to do a firmware update. I'm wonder if PS3 will ever use these 400gb discs for GAMES. I can only imagine what developers could do with that extra capacity. Some complained that even BD was not enough capacity for their game. With 400gb, theyd be in developer heaven.

not economically feasible for a dev to make a game that big.

only use would be to put multiple games on 1 disc.

Big game with high quality 1080p video. 400GB could easily be made useful.

Maybe it will entice Square to develop future iterations of Final Fantasy as PS3 exclusives again. They could have so much more cinematic quality to it.

I think it was one of the people making MGS4 who said that even Blu-ray was not enough capacity.

I meant prerendered video.

However much some people may dislike it, some devs are going to continue to use it.

Capcom and Square come to mind. I wonder how big FF7 is without the cutscenes.

Hit it on the head. Games would only be made for a 400GB disc if it was some sort of huge compilation, in high quality of course.

Other than that, what developer would take the time to make a game that would TRULY utilize a disc that big?!

I can't think of one. That's even too hefty for Kojima! And thats saying something.

That would be awesome if they did, i do not forsee that anywhere in the near future. Companies are still trying to maximize the space they have now, let alone 400GB. 400GB would open the door to amazing possibilities.

Just because it's possible to make the discs doesn't make them economically feasible though...

I'd be more interested in 100GB movie discs with less compression. And hey, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King without any bitrate in audio or video tradeoffs would be absolute win.

Game-wise, I don't think we've come to the point where we really "need" more than 50GBs, yet. Maybe several years down the road.

We don't need 25GB but if you want the best quality you want the most capacity as soon as possible.

I'll take a PS2 greatest hits disc. If possible, throw about 50 of the best games on there.

Excellent idea! Considering it is on the same disc then it wouldn't be an issue with switching between the PS2 games mid-play without going back to the XMB.

Only downside is that corporations (made up of people) are greedy and that wouldn't happen as they can make millions with selling them individually.
