Default 209Mason's Finished HT project!

Well I'm finally done!!!

This has been a long time in the making as it took a while to get help putting up the drywall, but once that was done I busted on it every night for about 2 months straight between Febuary and mid April... There are lots of pictures of all the work in progress leading right up to the finished product in my gallery in the link below.

Check it out. See what you think. Most of the work was done by yours truly (man I hate sanding) but it was well worth it!

Very nice setup! Looks like you've been reading these forums and taking advantage of highly recommended gear.

I love the T90e speakers. I have a pair, myself, and they were a considerable upgrade for me. Would love some B&W, but that's for another time.

You CS2 desperately needs a home. I can see that is a challenge for the moment, but it looks as if you will either have to mount it on the wall above the TV or else get a stand and perch it centered off the floor. I'm sure you have something in store!

Oh, and if there's liquid in that jar above your Onkyo 706, I'd consider relocating that jar!

Nice work, and yes, Kung Fu Panda is quite a BD! I love demonstrating with that one!

So far I like it all except the center position. Since you did all that work yourself I bet you could easily fix that and mount you TV so you have a better spot for the center. It will make a big difference in looks and sound!!

Other than that - good job on the build especially doing it all by yourself. Me and my wife did our basement ourselves too and the mudding and taping was fine but I hear you man - sanding's a b!tch!!

Great job! The CS2 is a big center, and it won't fit in your stand. Only choice appears to be a mount on the wall right by the top of your tv. That is if you don't want to mount the tv to make room beneath.

Thanks for all the kind words! And yes, I used these forums extensively to pick out all my gear! A big thanks to everyone who helped over the past 6 months or so...

Yeah, as for the CS2, I'm not sure what to do with that yet. The problem with hanging the TV is that the studs underneath are flat against the concrete instead of like your typical wall. So where you'd normally have the full 4 inches to drill into (3.5" plus .5" drywall), I'd only have about 2 inches before I'd hit concrete. I'm not sure if that would be deep enough for me to feel comfortable hanging the 65 lb tv on the wall... I think the route I'll end out going is making a shelf above it and putting the CS2 there like Blu Titan said. I feel comfortable hanging 17 lbs up there, but 65 is pushing it .

I also forgot to mention that I've got OWM3's mounted on the rear ceiling behind the couch. I think you can barely see one in one of the pictures of the posters on the back wall. I was going to go with the Monitor 30's, but all the brackets for celiing mounts would have caused me to drill into the speakers which I wasn't keen on doing. A $5 pair of mounts from monoprice are holding the OWM3's VERY securely, so I'm pretty happy with that, and as far as I'm concerned they sound pretty good too.

Anyhoo, we absolutely love the setup. Thanks so much again to everyone here who gave recommendations... Originally I think my wife thought I was crazy, but now she's a big fan of watching movies down there.

Looks good but yea, as you know and others have noted, the CS2 (same one I have) has to find a better home. The Mount I have (in my Sig. below) works Great and is rated for 30lbs., and I've noticed improved audio from where my old CS10 was (beneath the TV) - So I'm assuming it's due to the improved Center speaker, along with the New above TV location. Check it out. Just an idea. I'll have new pics shortly as i'm doing Fabric covers for Foam I have on the walls, and bi-amping my Front T90e's today as well. Oh, and doing Banana Plugs all around as well.

Aerodude! How goes it my friend?! Good to hear from you.
Thanks for all the info/advice over the building of my HT. I'm loving everything so far... the Onkyo, Polks, etc...

Anyhoo, how's that Omnimount work? Does it attatch to the wall and rest on the tv? Just curious. Thanks!

Hey there - just glad to help as I've been helped here myself from So many!

The Omnimount works fine - The CS2 is 16-17lbs., & it's rated for 30lbs, so it works fine. It has to short metal lets that go over the Front of the TV to help with keeping the Shelf in place (they're silver so I used Black electrical tape to have them "Blend-in" with the Black TV frame, & to assist in Protecting the TV itself). I'll post pics this week but no, it doesn't attach to the wall. It has telescoping legs that come down that adhere to the back of your TV with very strong Sticky backs, which go on little metal plates on the end of the legs.

Very nice Mason. You can tell pretty quick who has done their homework and who has not. Your basement set-up is nice, and you already know what to do about the center. I luv my Polks and they serve me well. I like the choice you made for a sub as well. Can I ask one question, but with such a large space, do you notice any fluctuations in what amount of bass you can detect as you move through the room? I ask, as I have a basement set-up with no back wall and the large space behind my "HT area" really created a # of bass voids until I got a second sub. Overall I like what you have done with the aesthetics as well, but I do see some cable management behind the entertainment center, so maybe that could be "tiddy-uped?" Good job regardless.

gotta give it up to you for the work done in the basement, that is alot of work to do and late nights (if you were brave enough)

but you might want to look into purchasing new Tv Stand,it doesn't look meant to be used in home audio to me for it being so low to the ground, shouldn't be matching up with the bottom last speaker on the Polk's..one's you do buy a nice one it'll look great...don't cheap out!,you only live once!...the rest is nice.
