Default Night time viewing

I own a 40 inch full lcd and I view most of my blu's in a completly dark room. when i turn the lights off it seems the image losses quality and color but when i turn the lights back on it looks fantastic? Is there something im doing wrong ? do i need ambient lighting? please help!!

It's ambient light. Your irises open up more in a dark room, and thus the blacks don't look as good. Consider some led lighting behind your set, or just a small lamp off behind you that doesn't directly interfere with your viewing.

With the ambient light, your irises will close up more, letting in less light- causing those blacks to look deeper.

As an alternative, you could calibrate your set for night time viewing, which would do the trick as well. The only problem is that daytime viewing may look too dark.

No, the real problem is that the OP is using an LCD TV. If you want a great picture (especially in a dark room), a plasma TV is a better option than an LCD TV.

NO, I have an LCD and watch it all the time in the dark also, and I have none of the problems that the OP is talking about, Like Aramis said, calibrate it to a dark room envirionment or use a light somewhere off in the back. LCD's look great in the Dark just as Plasma's look great in the light, I have seen both in both settings, this is the stupidest arguement in the world.
