I'm not talking extras on the disc.
But for example Dark Knight: HMV - Had a special DVD edition in a "batmask" Walmart - Had a double pack DVD (seperate disc with special extras) Blockbuster - Had a pretty thick "batman journal" with the DVD movie, looked neat. FS - Had a batpod model with its DVD edition. What gives? If anything, I would think they want us to dive into blu-ray why the heck don't they save the goodies for us folks who fork over the extra bucks to get it on the blu-ray? I'm guessing they want us to buy both versions (collectors anyway). I suppose I should not be surprised at this shameless money grab, and it gives them the chance to "double dip" another release. Starting to understand why lots of people say "why bother just download it", not that I agree, but I have the usual freinds who wait for the edition they want to come out, be it "ultra chrome megaton red/green shiny magic fantastic rainbow edition" or whatever. Edit: Good to see you changed your comment before I submitted since that's quite a jump. Anyway...
As for TDK, they did have "goodies". At Best Buy they had a joker mask, batman mask, a bat-pod and a joker playing card. At Target they had a case shaped like a batman mask (like the Iron Man mask case they had). |

What I want to know is why aren't movie studios just releasing extras and special editions just on blu-ray and have just regular "movie only" versions on DVD?!
Don't studios believe in blu-ray?? ![]() |

The studios have to hold back so they can "force" us to double-dip later on. I mean, I really don't think there's going to be a whole wave of "remastered" blu-rays down the road since the transfers are pretty much right-on the first time (mostly). Extra features are all they have to motivate re-buying with this format!

DVD was a major upgrade from VHS, and I believe the special packaging was a marketing strategy. Blu-Ray sells itself, it doesn't need to have the fancy casing to sell it.
